Unit 3
Presenter Today I’m asking the students at Kilbourne High about their
school.

1
Presenter Darren, what do you think about the school?
Darren It’s a really good school, but I can’t stand the uniform. It’s green
and black. It’s horrible! I’d like to wear my own clothes.

2
Presenter Do you like the school Rosie?
Rosie It’s OK. But the food is awful. It’s expensive and at lunchtime you
have to wait and wait. It’s always cold! And there aren’t tables
and chairs for everybody.

3
Presenter Do you think it’s a good school Mark?
Mark It’s great. We learn a lot here. The teachers are fantastic. They’re
really interesting and the work is interesting too. My favourite
lessons are English and Spanish.

4
Presenter What are your favourite lessons, Gill?
Gill I like IT. They’ve got very good IT rooms with loads of new
machines. You can go in there at lunchtime and after school too.

5
Presenter And Jed, what do you like about this school?
Jed It’s a very modern place and all the buildings are new. We have
lots of fields to play football and other sports. Some schools are
small and old. Our isn’t!

Unit 5
Presenter I’m here at the new Parkland Safari Park and I’m talking to Gina
Cliff. Gina’s the director of the park. Gina, good morning.
Gina Hello.
Presenter This is a fantastic safari park. My family love it.
Gina Thank you. We hope people enjoy their visits here.
Presenter Why do you think this safari park is so popular?
Gina Well, we have a lot of different animals here. There are animals
from every continent. People can’t usually see them – only in
books or on holiday! Here they can drive past amazing animals
and see how they behave.
Presenter What are your favourite animals here?
Gina Oh – I have lots of favourites! I love the lions. You know, you can
drive in your car through the lion park. They come up to your car
door!
Presenter Isn’t that very dangerous?
Gina It’s not dangerous when you’re in the car. It’s more dangerous out
of it! People have to stay in their cars!
Presenter Do you have another favourite?
Gina Well, we have a lake in the centre of the park and there are some
unusual fish in it. There are also some beautiful water birds.
Presenter Do you have any special things for young children to look at?
Gina There is a snake and insect house! The children love that! The
parents don’t! And we have a children’s zoo. Children can play
with some of the small animals there and they can see some new
baby animals. It’s not dangerous for them at all.
Presenter And you have a shop and a restaurant too.
Gina That’s right. When you’re tired you can sit down and have a meal.
And you can buy some souvenirs from the shop.
Presenter A really good day out for all the family! Thank you very much, Gina.
Gina You’re welcome!

Unit 6
A
We stayed in the city centre and the hotel was really good. It was very old with
big rooms and we could walk to the museums and galleries in three minutes!

B
Our holiday was excellent! We stayed with some friends in their flat and they
showed us all the best places to see. They also cooked us some fantastic
traditional food! We’re going again next year!

C
We had to walk everywhere! It was terrible. We couldn’t speak the language
and we couldn’t understand the bus system. So we walked. We all got really
tired. Our hotel was very small and the rooms were cold. It was near the
railway station and we could hear the trains all through the night!

D
It’s a very modern city with a lot of new department stores. The shops are
wonderful. It was a shopping holiday really! My mum and I had a lot of fun.
Dad isn’t interested in shops so he stayed in the hotel room a lot and watched
TV! For our next holiday we’re going to a beach. Dad likes that!

Carl I love the new Italian restaurant, Mario’s. Pizza is my favourite
meal and they have so many different kinds on the menu.

B
Interviewer And which restaurant do you like here in Kelsey?
Diana That’s easy. It’s Pepper’s Burgers.
Interviewer And why do you like it?
Diana Well, it’s cheap and it’s quick when you’re in a hurry. And the beef
burgers are really good!

C
Interviewer Where do you go when you want to eat out?
Eric When it’s a birthday or something like that I like the Indian
Restaurant, Masala Magic, in Baker Road. The meals are
delicious and the waiters are very friendly too.

D
Interviewer And what’s your favourite restaurant, madam?
Fiona It’s got to be the Thai restaurant, Bangkok or Bust. It opened last
week. I went with my friends on Thursday and we had a fantastic
evening.

very comfortable.

Unit 9

1
Oh – my worst journey was when I went to Australia. I usually love flying and
I’ve travelled a lot in Europe but this journey was so long! I got very bored and
I read two books all the way through!

2
When I was twelve I went to New York with my mum and dad. We went to see
my sister. She had a job over there. We went by ship because my dad doesn’t
like planes and I was sick for the whole journey. I had to stay in bed for two
days. It was terrible. I haven’t travelled by ship again!

3
Oh yes. I remember my worst journey. I was five years old and I was on the
London Underground with my mum. And I lost her! I cried and cried and an
old lady took me to the ticket office. I was there for an hour! Today I hate
undergrounds and I don’t go on them.

4
I visited my friend in Italy last summer. First, I got up late and I missed the
plane! Then the airline company lost my bags! I didn’t have any clothes for a
week. I had to buy new ones. That was a really bad journey.

5
Last Monday I finished work at 5.30 in London and took the train home. The
train stopped after twenty minutes because it had a problem. They arranged a
bus for us. We got on the bus and then after ten minutes the bus stopped. It
had a problem too. We got off the bus and they ordered taxis for us. We
waited for the taxis but they didn’t come. We were there for two hours! Finally
they arrived and took us home. A one hour journey took five hours. It was
terrible!

Unit 10

1
My dream job is to be a teacher. I think it’s an interesting job and also you get
a lot of free time! I know teachers have to work hard in the evenings and at
the weekend but in the summer they get the same breaks as the children.
That’s cool!

2
I’d like to have a job where I don’t work alone. I like working with other people
and it’s good to plan things and do them together. People are good at different
things and if you work together you can do more.

3
My brother’s a chef and he’s very good at his job. He thinks I should be a chef
too. I like cooking but the thing is – he works very late. He works every
evening and Saturday nights too. He doesn’t have much time to have fun! I’d
like a job that’s nine to five.

4
I’ll never work in a shop because I’m not very good with people! I’m not very
patient and I know when you work in a shop you have to smile all the time and
answer people’s questions. I prefer office work.

5
One day I’ll have a job where I can earn a lot! I love shopping and buying
things so the pay is important for me! I suppose a doctor earns a lot or maybe
an engineer. I know it takes a long time to study to become a doctor – but well,
I think I can do that!

Units 1–5
Presenter Today on the programme we have Ally from Newlands School.
Ally wants to tell us about a fashion show. Is that right Ally?
Ally Yes. The students at my school are organising a fashion show for
next Friday. That’s the 18th March and we want lots of people to
come!
Presenter So, can you tell our listeners – why are you having this fashion
show?
Ally Well, we want to get some money to build a swimming pool at the
school. There isn’t a pool at the moment and we have to go to the
pool in the town centre. So, we’re doing lots of things to raise
some money.
Presenter What a good idea! So, tell us about the show.
Ally The students are designing and making all the clothes for it.
There are lots of good ideas. There’s a competition too. The
audience can choose the best dress.
Presenter It sounds fun!
Ally Yeah! Also – we want people to wear their best clothes to the
show. We want it to be a very special evening!
Presenter And what about the times.
Ally Oh yes – it’s from 8.30 to 10.30 and the tickets are £10. And for
that you get sandwiches too.
Presenter OK! Thank you, Ally. I hope a lot of people come to your show
and that it’s a great success. Good luck!

Units 6–10
Presenter The Peters family have just returned from a holiday in Scotland
and they’re going to tell us about it. First Mike – you’re the dad.
What was Scotland like for you?
Mike Well, I loved it! I particularly liked the scenery. We drove through
beautiful mountains and saw some very pretty lakes and rivers.
Sometimes we didn’t see a house for hours!
Presenter And what about you, Sue?
Sue For me the best days were in the country hotel. We just relaxed. It
was quiet and peaceful and Mike and Sam did some fishing. The
restaurant and the meals were excellent – especially the fresh
fish and wonderful vegetables!!
Presenter And you Sam? Did you have a good time?
Sam Yeah – it was OK. It was a bit quiet for me though. And we didn’t
meet many new people. Also – there wasn’t a lot to do in the
evenings. But we spent two nights in Edinburgh, the capital of
Scotland and Jenna and I went to a night club. That was good.
Presenter Do you think the same as Sam, Jenna?
Jenna Well, yeah. I preferred the time in Edinburgh. There were some
good shops and we went to a theatre one night too. The Scottish
people were really friendly and I’d like to back again.
Presenter And lastly, Jake. You’re the youngest. Did you like Scotland?
Jake Oh yeah. I liked the animals. When we went for walks we saw a
lot of animals. But we didn’t see a monster in Loch Ness! I liked
the music. At the hotel they played this funny instrument – and
some people did a Scottish dance! It was fun! I tried it too, but I
wasn’t very good!
