ENGLISH SPEAKING TEST
PART 1: PRONUNCIATION

1. My name’s Mary and my husband’s name is Peter. We’ve got three children - two sons and a
daughter. Our sons’ names are Tim and Ben. They’re twins, but they aren’t identical. Peter’s got dark
hair, but Ben’s hair is fair. Our daughter’s name is Tracy. She’s eight years old.

2. When you’re 18 you can leave home and you can get married. You can do these things when you’re
16, if your parents agree. You can also vote in elections when you’re 18. You can get into a pub when
you’re 14, but you can’t buy wine until you’re 18.

3. We have dinner at about half past seven. It’s the big meal of the day and we have meat or fish with
vegetables and potatoes. We have a glass of wine with the meal. On Saturday evenings we usually go to
a restaurant for dinner at about eight o’clock.

4. Peter wakes up at seven o’clock, but he doesn’t get up until 7.15. He has a shower and gets dressed.
After breakfast he cleans his teeth. He leaves the house at eight o’clock and catches the 8.15 train to
London. On the train he reads the newspaper and does the crossword.

5. On the other three days Bob travels to London by train. It costs a lot of money, but he doesn’t want
to change his job because he enjoys it. It often takes him two hours to get to work every day. He often
does some work on the train to the office.

6. The guests often go to a cafe’ or a club after dinner. Mary sometimes goes with them or meets her
friends, but she doesn’t usually go out, because she has to get up early the next day. So she washes up
and then she usually watches TV for an hour. She goes to bed at about 10.

7. It’s got a table and a mirror in the corner. We all share the kitchen, the living room and the bathroom.
We sometimes have arguments about things, like when someone spends too long in the bathroom, but
we have a lot of fun, too.
8. I won a weekend for two in Paris. My girlfriend, Mary, and I went to the airport in a really big car.
We went to Paris by plane. The weather was quite hot all the weekend and the food and wine were
really good. It was a wonderful weekend in a beautiful city.
9. In winter, children in Australia often enjoy outdoor activities. They often go camping in a park or
forest. They will play there all day and night. Some of them will draw pictures while others play
volleyball or football.
10. Boys and girls in Thailand all like to go to the cinema. To see the movies, they have to pay money
for the tickets. These youngsters often watch action film, which was not popular in the past, but is very
well-known nowadays.
