Freuds Psychosexual Development Oral Stage (Weaning) Normal: The infant's primary source of interaction occurs through the mouth, so the rooting and sucking reflex is especially important. The mouth is vital for eating, and the infant derives pleasure from oral stimulation through gratifying activities. Because the infant is entirely dependent upon caretakers (who are responsible for feeding the child), the infant also develops a sense of trust and comfort through this oral stimulation. - The patient was breastfed for only 2 months by because her mother had to attend her business. - No other caretaker was mentioned in replacement of her mother. - So for this stage, trust was not established and confusion may have developed because her mother who is supposed to be her primary caretaker was not there to attend to her needs as an infant. UNSATISFIED Adult manifestations: - She only has a few friends and these relationships tend to end in a short amount of time. Anal Stage (Toilet Training)

Because of this, she becomes rivals with her mother and sees him as competition for the fathers affection. During this time, girls also develop a fear that their mother will punish them for these

feelings, such as by castrating them. This group of feelings is known as Oedipus Complex (after the Greek Mythology figure who accidentally killed his father and married his mother). -The patient is observed to be close to her father and not to her mother. At her very young age, she has already experienced being shouted and hit violently by her own mother whenever she had temper tantrums. -She does not exhibit interest in socializing.
