What are the different types of options available when insuring a vehicle ? Under (S.141 M.V.Act) punishable V/S 190 M.V.Act., no vehicle can be driven without proper Insurance documents. Types of Insurances There are two main kinds of insurance covers 1. Motor Policy (A) (Act only Policy or Third Party Insurance) Under the Motor Policy (A) Insurance class the liability is unlimited in case of injury or death. With added premium, fire and theft can also be covered. A specific claim for this must be made in the Motor Accident Claim Tribunal by the injured or legal heir of the deceased against the owner of the vehicle and his insurance company. 2. Motor Policy (B) (Comprehensive Policy) The Motor Policy (B) Insurance class is a comprehensive policy wherein the Insurance company compensates the injured against loss / damage to the vehicle as a result of accident, fire, theft, earthquake, riots, strike, floods, terrorism, loss during transit by road, rail, elevators etc. 3. What are the documents that are required to be carried by a person driving a vehicle ? The following are the documents that a driver must carry in person while using a vehicle. 1. Driving Licence. 2. Please click here to get information. 5.When can the Traffic Police tow away a vehicle ? Any vehicle found abandoned or left unattended in a public place is liable for removal by the police. Any motor vehicle left unattended in a public place or even if found parked in a permitted parking place for a period of 10 hours, the vehicle can be towed away under the instruction of the Police Officer. Any vehicle left unattended or found partially dismantled and / or found creating a traffic hazard or causing impediment to the traffic, can be immediately removed by towing under the instruction of the Police Officer. In all such cases you as the owner of the vehicle will be responsible for all the towing costs as well as any other penalty. The penalty charges can be upto Rs.50/- per hour.

6.What do to when stopped by a Traffic Policeman ? A Traffic Policeman in uniform has the right to demand your driving license and inspect your vehicle documents. He can impound your license if he should so judge it necessary. If a Traffic Policeman gives you instructions on the road, it is your duty to obey him regardless of what the electronic traffic signals indicate. When a Traffic Policeman is stationed at a signal / crossing, he is the final authority. If you cannot find your vehicle, it is likely that it may have been towed rather than stolen. Ask around, local shopkeepers are normally informed about local Traffic Stations where impounded vehicles are kept. Stop your vehicle when a Traffic Policeman so indicates. You may ask him what is the reason for you being stopped. Do not argue with the Policeman. If you feel there is a genuine argument for your having broken a rule, explain it to him. If you have committed a mistake, admit it candidly. He may well let you off with a warning if approached with courtesy. Do not drop names of other Policemen and influential people. If the Policeman is insistent, show him the requisite documents, and allow him to take whatever action falls within the purview of his duties. 7.What actions can a Traffic Policeman take ? He may note down the particulars of your License which will later be forwarded to a court. The court will then issue instructions regarding the course of action that is to be taken - a certain amount may be collected, as fine. If you plead guilty and send the requisite amount, the case will be filed, else summons will be sent to you and the case will be judged on merit. He may impound your Drivers License and issue a temporary license (which lasts only for a stipulated period). You may compound the offence by paying a fine at the Police Station under whose jurisdiction the License was impounded. Else you will be provided a summons from court, and if you fail to appear in court an arrest warrant may be issued. If the Policeman is an officer of a Sub-Inspectors rank or above, you may compound the offence on the spot by paying a fine. The relevant receipts will be provided to you. 8. What can I do when harassed by a Traffic Policeman ? If a Traffic Policeman harasses you for illegal gratification, never yield to his demands. Allow him to impound your License, do not attempt to bribe him even if coerced. Note down his Buckle number / Name which will be written on a name plate on his shirt. If he does not have one, you may demand his Identity Card. If he fails to provide you an Identity Card, refuse to give him your documents. All receipts / temporary Licenses will have the Name / Buckle number of the compounding Traffic Police Officer on duty. You can approach the Traffic Police Department with a specific complaint indicating all the particulars about the incident, and this MUST include all the details about the concerned Police Officer. Form and manner of display of Registration marks on the motor vehicles:-

1. The registration mark referred to in sub-section ( 6) of section 41 shall be displayed both at the front and at the rear on all motor vehicles clearly and legibly on a plain surface of a plate or part of the vehicle not inclined to vertical by more than thirty degrees , at the front facting direct to the front and at the rear facing direct to the rear. 2. In the case of motor cycles the registration mark in the front shall be displayed parallel to the handle bar or any part of the vehicle including mud guard facing the front instead of , on a plate in line with the axis of the vehicle. Provided that :A. The registration mark exhibited at the rear of a transport vehicle shall be affixed to the vehicle on the right hand side at a distance not exceeding one meter from the ground as may be reasonably possible having regard to the type of the body of the vehicle. B. The registration shall also be painted on the right and left side on the body of the vehicle in the case of a transport vehicle . C. The registration mark shall also be painted and exhibited on the partition provided between the driver and the passengers , facing the passengers seats or, where there is no such partition , on the front interior of the vehicle near the roof to the left side of the drivers seat facting the passengers seat in the case of a stage carriage or a contract carriage and in the case of a motor cab or a taxi cab it shall be sufficient if the registration mark is painted on the dash - board . D. The registration mark shall be exhibited on a plain plate or surface on the left hand side and on the rear in the case of a trailer or the last trailer , apart from the registration mark of the drawing motor vehicle to which such trailer or trailers attached . 3. The registration mark shall be exhibited in two lines, the state code and the registering authority code forming the first line and the rest forming second line, one below the other: Provided that the registration mark front may be exhibited in one line : Provided further that in models that in vehicles having no sufficient provision at the rear to exhibit the registration mark in two lines, it shall be sufficient if in such vehicles registration mark is exhibited in a single line. Provided further that registration mark on a light motor vehicle may be in the center with illumination. 4. Every motor vehicle, except motor cab and motor car, manufactured on and from the date of commencement of the central motor vehicles (Amendment) Rules, 1993 shall be provided with sufficient space in the rear for the display of registration mark in two lines.5. In case of agricultural tractors, the registration need not be inclined to the vertical by more than 30 degrees . 6. The registration mark of the drawing agriculture tractor may not be exhibited on the agriculture trailer or trailers.

Exhibition of Registration mark

The letters and numerals shall be exhibited as follows: 1. in the case of Transport Vehicle other than a motor cab, registration mark shall be exhibited in two separate horizontal lines with letters and code numbers of the Registering Authority in one horizontal line, and numerals in another horizontal line below it. 2. in all other cases, the registration mark may be exhibited with letters and numerals within two horizontal lines as aforesaid or in one horizontal line.
