T9 PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKESN FOR P.A. INSTALLATIONS IN 25 KV AC ELECTRIFIED SECTIONS

1. The microphone should aim to minimise the electro static/electro magnetic induction either in the equipment or in the lead from the mic to amplifier. 2. A super imposed AC voltage or 150V at -50 Hz on the distribution cables should not effect the quality of speech or musci programme. The line circuits should be so balanced as to render the 3. induced emf in effective. 4. Some allowance in the signal to noise ratio may be kept for the incritable 50 Hz AC induction coupled with equipment unbalance. 5. The amplifier with the cable and loud speakers shall be such as to withstand a di-electric strength test voltage of 1000 V AC rms for two seconds when applied between the terminals of the speaker and body. 6. In the electrified areas, the length of parallelism between the loud speaker circuit and catenary system should be limited to 1.2km. Where the length is exceeded suitable sectionalizing transformer should be provided. Mic cables with their shields earthed must be used. If electromagnetic induction is anticipated. 7. A minimum separation of 5 meters between the nearest wiring of the loudspeaker and the catenary system shall be kept. 8. Screened cables and wire or cables and wires in metallic conducts should be used in electrified area, so as to eliminate the inductors both electro magnetic and electro static. The cable screening conduct shall be effectively earthed at both the ends. If sectionalising transformers are provided, earthing of the cable screen should be done on the two sides of the transformer. The value of this earthing resistance should be as low as possible and shall not exceed 5 ohms. 9. The screened cables used for working the loud speakers shall have a screening factor of 0.5 within the field intensity of 50V/Km. to 450V/Km. at 50 Hz. 10. It is desirable to run a main cable for the loud speaker circuits as far away as possible from the caternary system and connect the LS at different points by distribution cables run at right angles to the catenary system. 11. Wiring for equipment should also be screened. 12. In RE area the metal mounting of the cone type loud speaker and the body of the horn type Loud Speaker shall be earthed, the resistance of this earthing shall not exceed 10 Ohms.

APPENDIX CONFERENCE SYSTEM For conference and seminars and other workshops separate PA systems are installed. In such applications special type of units are used. Typically there will be a chair person who conducts the seminar or conference etc., controls the proceedings and also controls the access of each delegate on the proceedings by controlling the delegates mike unit. A typical arrangement is shown in the fig. 64. SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE ABOVE SYSTEM: 1. 2. A main amplifier with a mixer for connecting atleast a minimum of 8 delegate units with 1 Chairmans unit. Chairmans Unit contains: a. b. c. d. e. f. 3. 4. Microphone A visual indication to indicate chairmans microphone when activated. A lockable press to talk switch, when pressed microphone is activated and its speaker is disconnected. On pressing the same switch again microphone gets disconnected and speaker is reactivated. A priority switch is provided for the chairman to interrupt the conference. A speaker with a volume control. Suitable cables and connectors.

Delegates Unit is same as Chairmans unit without a priority switch. It should be able to record and playback the conference with a cassette recorder.
