How to Survive School

1. Make a Throw away pile, Keep pile, Show to parents pile. [Link] the Keep pile for your homework, signed papers or tests, any other important items. [Link] the Throw away pile for old school reminders, newspapers, old graded homework. The graded homework should also go in the pile you show to your parents. [Link] the Show parents pile for graded tests, field trip permission slips, papers that need signing, papers to inform your parents, reminders, etc. This pile should be in a place you will remember to show to your parents. [Link] the next shopping list: A high quality pencil bag or box, as these last longer than plastic. 10 pencils of your choice and one big eraser. Include a sharpener if you choose normal pencils and lead if you choose mechanical pencils. Highlighters, colored pencils and markers.

A few black and red pens are optional, but highly useful. A fountain pen is a good thing to have with you. Ink cartridges if you have a fountain pen. A small pair of scissors- not too sharp otherwise they might poke a hole in your pencil case. A glue stick. Lined paper. Notebooks(pick some you like). Ring binder (any width). Calculator. Make sure the colour notebook you use matches the colour for that subject, too. Graph paper. Sometimes your teacher won't have any on hand and it would be an advantage to have your own. Sticky notes. [Link] Shopping List A few binders on main subjects colours. 12 sharpened pencils. A pencil sharpener. A twelve-inch (30 centimeter) ruler. Two to four packs of notebook paper. Keep one in your backpack and the others at home for when you run out. You can get either college ruled or wide ruled, it doesn't matter in most schools. Notebooks for each academic class you will have. Buy a backup, they don't always last all year. Scissors. Pens. A soft pencil case. Don't get a plastic one because it might break. Eraser caps to put on your pencils. A chapter book from the library. You may need to have a book with you. Some schools prefer

that you don't read manga or comic books, but you can still bring one for the bus. 1 or 2 spiral notebooks, for organizing. Colored pencils, sharpened. Two highlighters. Any colors are good, choose non-toxic ones if you can. A sturdy backpack. Calculator. You won't need this on the first day, and should probably wait to find out what type your teacher recommends. Mini stapler. Planner to organize homework. One flash key. Get a 1GB or a 2GB flash key. Also called a USB drive or a flash drive, they have them at Office Max and Office Depot. External hard drives may also be used. Geometry Set.

9. Keep a table of contents!!! [Link],get binders for extra papers,labeled:Homework,Quizzes,Notes and Tests. 11. Organize your notes while in class.

Write in short, descriptive phrases that are easy to memorize. Circle or add a star to important information. [Link] online for "To Do" lists or create your own in a wordpad. [Link]'t procrastinate as it will surely put you behind. 14. Use a small notebook or planner to record homework assignments. Include page numbers of textbooks and due dates. 15. Organize completed homework. Once complete, cross homework off your planner. Place papers in their appropriate binder. Maintain this routine on a daily basis. 16(and most important).HAVE FUN!!! -A.
