Narrator: Long ago, in the ancient city of Corinth, there lived a Greek king, Sisyphus. Our story begins with him solving a problem in his country. Sisyphus: My, do I need a clean water source. How can we get one? Maybe we can dig a hole (Pause) Narrator: Zeus flies by with a young river nymph. He was quite a ladies man! Remember? Sisyphus: That Zeus, always causing trouble. I wouldnt be surprised if that young nymphs father came by. Queen: Isnt that Asopus daughter Narrator: Soon afterwards, Asopus, the minor god of all rivers, flew by in search of his lost daughter. (Pause for PPT) Sisyphus: If you give me fresh water, Ill tell you where he took her. Narrator: And so it was done. A large stream of crystal clear water faded into view. What a sight it was indeed! (Pause) Sisyphus: Okay, Zues took her that way I believe. Scene 2 (Pause) Zeus: Oh no! Asopus! King Sisyphus must have ratted me out! That does it! Hades!!! Narrator: And out of the ground sprang Hades, God and protector of the dead. Hades: (ominous rasp) Brother, I believe you have called on me? Zeus: King Sisyphus. He has become quite a nuisance to me. I want him with you, per say?

Hades: Yes, brother. It will be done tomorrow. No more King Sisyphus! Zues: Good Scene 3 Queen: My King, where have you been? Sisyphus: I was at a temple of Zeus. The preacher says I have offended him and shall die! Queen: What did you do? Was it that whole Asopus business? Sisyphus: I believe so. But my Queen, I have a plan. When I am gone, do NOT place the golden coin under my tongue. Queen: (skeptically) Okay, but the whole idea of tricking the gods seems pretty dangerous. Sisyphus: Trust me on this. And before I go.. Narrator: And with that, the Great King Sisyphus of Corinth died. Scene 4 Narrator: A great funeral was held for the late (though not for long) King. The whole country attended. Minos from Crete and Prometheus was eventually let go. And at the end, Hermes led the King to the River Styx, entry to the Underworld. Now usually when a King dies, Hades meets the man personally at the River Styx. But with no coin, Sisyphus appeared as a poor beggar to Hades. Hades: Welcome to my realm, the Underworld. If youll pay meBut wait, I see you have no goodies for me? Sisyphus: Alas, my wife was too cheap to pay for my passage. She never really liked me. Hades: WHAT!!!!! How dare she! You go back up there and teach that woman some manners, or it will be her I am meeting here. Sisyphus: Okay, say hi to Cerberus and Persephone for me! Narrator: And with that, the kings soul returned back to its body. Epilogue Queen: Oh, Sisyphus, did you get any autographs. Sisyphus: You never asked, but my plan worked. Queen: How can you tell? Sisyphus: (to audience) good thing shes pretty!

Queen: Only one problem Sisyphus: That would be Queen: What happens when Zeus finds out?
