First Quarter 1 Pinnacle Airlines Inc MSP Airport Pinnacle Airlines, an executive jet line and Delta subsidiary, is moving its corporate headquarters to the Twin Cities from Memphis. The company received a $550,000 forgivable loan from the State, requiring it to move at least 200 jobs to the new Twin Cities office within two years. After opening a new maintenance facility at the Duluth International Airport in October 2012, AAR Corp. continues to expand its workforce. The company has begun searching for skilled mechanics with a job fair in the Twin Cities. AAR Corp. services Air Canada's 89-plane Airbus fleet. Clam Corp., a maker of ice fishing accessories, announced plans to build an expanded headquarters and manufacturing facility in Rogers. New infrastructure required for the project would also make up to an additional 200 acres developable in the city's industrial park. Access America Transport moved its Minnesota office from Ramsey into larger space in Brooklyn Park. Their 30,000 SF lease includes first right of refusal on an additional 25,000 SF of space in the new lcoation. The company will hire 75 employees over 2013 and up to an additional 425 within five years. Inline Packaging, a manufacturer of consumer food packaging used for microwave cooking, plans to expand its current Princeton location. The 2,500 SF addition would create 25 new jobs at the facility. The Mayo Clinic is proposing a $6 Billion public/private investment in both its campus and the Rochester community in the next twenty years. The initiative, dubbed "Destination Medical Center" is intended to help the clinic maintain its global competitiveness and would be one of the largest economic development efforts in the nation. AW Kuettel & Sons, a family-owned metal fabricator, is relocating to a new facility in the Duluth Airpark from its longtime location on the city's Clare Public Marine Terminal. Though smaller, the new facility is more efficient than the current location, facilitating the company's planned growth over the next several years. Louisiana Pacific is upgrading its production capacity at a facility in Two Harbors. The plant manufactures engineered wood siding products used in new home construction. The $6 Million upgrade will increase capacity by 25% at the facility. Software firm Help/Systems Inc. is expanding into a new headquarters adjacent to its existing facility. The company makes software to help firms manage their data centers and other IT infrastructure. The move will increase Help/Systems' office footprint from 40,000 SF to 60,850 SF. MobileRealtyApps, which designs mobile apps for the residential real estate industry, has expanded out of its incubator space at CoCo at the Grain Exchange Building in Minneapolis. The company has leased its own space in the building to accommodate its ongoing expansion. The New Ulm Medical Center, part of the Allina Clinics system, is planning a $5.3 Million expansion of its facility. The 12,000 SF expansion will increase the current size of the facility by 50%. The project is in response to increased patient visits following the Center's hiring of several practitioners from the surrounding region. The U.S. Postal Service plans to hire 400 new assistant carriers throughout the metropolitan region. The new part-time hires will help accommodate new delivery peaks expected with the Saturday service change and save money by reducing overtime hours for current employees. Holaira, maker of a pulmonary system medical technology, recently moved its headquarters to Plymouth from Bellevue, WA. The company, which also recently closed a $10 Million venture capital deal, currently employs 20 people. Allina Health plans to begin a $17 Million expansion of its WestHealth campus in Plymouth this year. The project consists of a 56,636 square foot transitional care facility and a 27,830 square foot underground parking ramp. It follows the completion of an $8 million emergency facility at the campus earlier this year. At its recent annual meeting, Minneapolis' Downtown Council announced that the 15 largest employers collectively added a net 750 jobs downtown in 2012. US Bancorp, Thrivent Financial, and the Hennepin County Medical Center accounted for some of the largest gains. Hormel is planning a $25 million expansion and upgrade of its processing facility in Austin. The project would include a new two-story, 20,517 square foot production facility and major upgrades to the existing structure, including noise and odor abatement technologies. The expansion would create 20 new permanent jobs on site.

The company has hired about 50 new employees in the past six months - bringing the total to about 500 in Duluth - and plans to add another 60 in coming months. The Mayo Clinic is planning a $28 million expansion of its Cannon Falls Medical Center. The project will nearly triple the size of the facility a year after its purchase by Mayo.

The move will let the firm expand its production capabilities and grow its workforce Fedex is planning a relocation of its SmartPost distribution center from its current Brooklyn Park location. The company is planning construction of a new 276,000 square foot facility in adjacent Maple Grove. All of the existing 300 employees will trasfer to the new facility once open, with additional hires expected thereafter. Indeed Brewing announced a $250,000 investment in its facility, enabling a production expansion. The project is expected to result in new hires over the coming year.

GEI Consultants, a civil and environmental engineering firm based in Boston, is opening a new office in the Twin Cities. Two company executives are launching the branch and will build out the office's staff in coming years. Gerten's, a landscaping and garden supply vendor, is continuing its recent expansion efforts with the acquisition of the Buell's Landscaping greenhouse near Hastings. Buell's, meanwhile, is relocating to Stillwater. Stream Global Services, a call center service provider, recently purchased competitor LBH Holdings, Ltd., a British firm. Stream Global is continuing its hiring expansion at its Eagan headquarters that was announced last fall. Advantage Emblem & Screen Printing is nearing completion of a 12,000 square foot expansion of its production facility in Duluth. The company has hired three new employees since the start of the expansion work. Pro Blast Technologies, a sandblasting and metal coating company, broke ground for its new facility in Keewatin. The 22,000 square foot structure will be Pro Blast's new headquarters and production facility. The expansion will enable to company to hire another eight employees beyond its current five. The firm was previously located in Pengilly, MN.

Wal-Mart announced that it is moving forward with a long-anticipated distribution center in Mankato. The 420,000 square foot facility will distribute perishable goods to regional Wal-Mart stores, creating 300 new jobs. The center is set to open in 2015. Future plans include a further 400,000 square foot dry storage expansion of the facility. Schell's Brewing Company announced expansion plans that would nearly double the company's production in the next two years. The plan includes a $2 Million production expansion this spring and an 1,800 square foot addition to the facility to be completed in 2014. Schell's continues to operate out of its original 1860 facility. New Flyer Bus Co. has applied for a loan from Stearns County that would enable expansion of its production facility in St. Cloud. The $4.9 Million, 12,000 square foot expansion would create 136 new jobs. New Flyer is a Canadian company that manufactures hybrid and alternative fuel public transit buses. Medical device manufacturer Baxter International recently closed on the purchase of a 215,000 square foot production facility in Brooklyn Park. Though the company has not announced plans for the facility, the $9.9 Million acquisition is anticipated to result in 200-400 new jobs in coming years. Transportation and logistics firm Valley Cartage is planning a relocation of its headquarters to Lake Elmo from Husdon, WI. The company is purchasing an approximately 26,000 square foot building which would eventually be home to 50 staff, including the company's executives. Rapid Diagnostek, a maker of a technology for quickly testing body fluids for diseases, relocated its headquarters from Hudson, WI to Plymouth. The company had been drawn to Wisconsin to take advantage of an angel investor tax credit program, but returned to Minnesota because of greater talent recruitment opportunities in the Twin Cities. Lakeville-based manufacturer Imperial Plastics plans to build a new 70,000 facility in Mankato's Eastwood Industrial Park. The new location is planned to open in fall of 2013 and is expected to create 125 new jobs. Fast Sprayers, a manufacturer of agricultural sprayer implements, is planning development of a 72,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Windom. The company expects the facility to be operational by the end of the year and will house 25 employees. Joy Global, a Milwaukee-based manufacturer of mining equipment, completed a $20 Million expansion of its plant in Virginia in January. The project, which added 92,000 square feet to the existing facility, retained 105 jobs and added 16 new jobs on site. Leisure Designs is a newly formed company that manufactures pontoon furniture. The company opened in 2012 with 20 employees and recently announced plans to add an additional five employees.

The company supplies and processes organic and non-GMO soybeans and corn. Ellingson Drainage, a construction company specializing in drainage systems, announced a $2.6 Million expansion of its headquarters in West Concord near Owatonna. The expansion is expected to create between 15-20 new jobs on site. Galaxy Enterprises, a Rothsay-based manufacturer, recently completed construction of a new building adjacent to its existing facility. The expansion facilitated the hiring of three new employees. Galaxy produces a variety of metal goods, predominantly for the petroleum industry. Lakeville-based National Polymers consyructs a 1,300 SF office adition along with a 31,000 SF warehouse addition. The firm has been a manufacturer of private label floor coating, concrete restoration and roof coating products.

Citrus Systems, Inc., a manufacturer of packaged citrus drinks, is moving its headquarters to a new 132,000 square foot building in Hopkins to accommodate sales growth. The company expects new jobs to be created at the new facility, though hiring plans have not yet been solidified. Pearson Candy Co. has acquired the Bit-O-Honey brand and will be moving manufacturing of the candy line to its facility in St. Paul. The new product line may bring as many as 30 new jobs to St. Paul. Calabrio, a firm that develops software for the call center industry, moved its headquarters from Plymouth to the Warehouse District in Minneapolis to accommodate continuing growth. The firm's new office is 6,500 square feet larger than its previous 30,000 square foot space. Software developer Enstratius was recently acquired by Dell, Inc. and plans to expand its presence in Minneapolis. The company currently has 37 employees, about half of whom are based in Downtown Minneapolis. No plans have been released regarding new hiring.

International farm implement manufacturer Agco is planning a new round of expansions over three years. The company will spend a total of $42 Million on its Jackson facility, adding 75 new jobs by 2015. The 2013 phase of the project involves a 30,000-square-foot expansion of the component manufacturing area which will increase capacity by 20%. Burnesville-based Force America has announced plans to build a new production facility in Alexandria. The expansion will total 45,000 square feet of new space and create 14 new jobs on site. Force America manufactures a variety of components for the transportation industry Emerson Process Management has announced plans to establish its global headquarters in Shakopee. The precision controls manufacturer - an affiliate of St. Louis-based Emerson Electric Co. - will invest $70 Million expanding an existing building and plans to add 500 new employees at the site in addition to its current 2,600 Minnesota workers. Beauty product manufacturer Aveda Corp. announced plans to expand its warehousing and distribution facility at its Blaine headquarters. The $3 Million project will add 61,200 square feet to the existing facility. CertainTeed Corp. of Valley Forge, PA recently started construction on an expansion of its asphalt shingle manufacturing facility in Shakopee. Sappi Fine Paper announced completion of a $19 million upgrade to its coated paper production line in Cloquet. The announcement comes in the midst of the company's $170 million conversion of much of the plant from producing paper pulp to chemical cellulose. After reaching production capacity last summer, Summit Brewing is expanding brewing operations at its St. Paul facility. Construction on the $120 million plant starts this summer and will hire 160 when completed in 2015. Enbridge Energy, a Calgary-based petroleum pipeline developer, announced plans to hire 90 new employees at its office in downtown Duluth. The company retrofits vehicle components to improve fuel efficiency. Midwest Fabrication & Supply, in Zumbrota, is expanding following an acquisition of an out-of-state manufacturer. Midwest manufactures a variety of custom sheet metal and pipe products. The project will likely add between 15 and 25 new jobs at the Zumbrota facility. Perkins Specialized Transport, a specialized heavy haul transport company, is planning a 20,000 square foot expansion of its Northfield facility. The expansion is expected to add 40 new permanent jobs. Capital Safety is proposing a significant expansion of its Red Wing headquarters. The project would result in the creation of between 50 and 100 new jobs on site. Capital Safety manufactures work site safety equipment and moved its headquarters last year from London to Red Wing. Contract food processor Zumbro River Brands is planning an expansion at its Albert Lea facility of up to 70,000 square feet. The project is expected to create 24 new jobs on site.

The Cannon Falls-based company has been manufacturing custom signage for over 50 years. Hancock, MN-based Hancock Concrete is constructing a 25,000 square foot expansion of its manufacturing facility in Cannon Falls. Hancock has developed and built innovative structural concrete products since 1917 and has facilities across four states. E-Z Fabricating, a custom steel fabricator, is planning an expansion to a new site in Chatfield. The 14,000 square foot project is expected to at 10-15 new jobs at the company. Elk River-based Alliance Machine is adding 18,000 square feet to its manufacturing facility and expects to add 6 new employees. Alliance is a veteran-owned contract machine shop that primarily serves the medical, defense, and aerospace industries. KLN Family Brands of Perham is expanding three of its companies, thanks to significant sales growth. New facilities at Kenny's Candy, Tuffy's Pet Foods, and Nutheads Chocolate Factory account for a total of 150,000 square feet of manufacturing space. KLN's fourth brand - Barrel O' Fun - has also seen strong sales growth, thanks partly to its new Larry The Cable Guy cheeseburger flavored potato chips.
