Title: PCB Design Workshop Speaker: Mr. Archie Canuto Date & Location: February 16, 2013 AMACC-Baguio Building (Room 202 and Computer Lab 1) Registration Fee: 80 pesos Who should attend: open to all students who are interested to have basic in designing pcb layouts and simulate circuit diagrams. This seminar aims to inform students the basics of pcb layout design, the dos and donts of routing, and make layouts manually without the aid of auto-route. During the lecture part the speaker discusses about the basics and principles of the right way of pcb layout design. He discusses the dos and donts in making a layout. He also discusses why we should not use autoroute and use manual routing. After the lecture part of the seminar the attendees went down to the computer lab to have their hands on and designed the circuit diagram using proteus. The attendees are given a circuit diagram to simulate and make a layout from proteus. They selected the right components and placed the right value for each component. After they are done placing the components they switched to proteus ares to design the layout. Although the seminar is not finished because they are already short in time, the attendees still learned a lot. They are now using pcb layout design through their computers instead of manual etching that is time consuming and will result in a not as good layout produced when you photo etch using the pcb layout they have designed. Topics in this Seminar include: Proteus Isis Proteus Ares PCB Layout Design Manual Routing

Description: PCB Design PCB layout can be performed manually (using CAD) or in combination with an Autorouter. The best results are usually still achieved using atleast some manual routing - simply because the design engineer has a far better judgement of how to arrange circuitry. Surprisingly, many autorouted boards are often completely illogical in their track routing - the program has optimised the connections, and sacrificed any small amount of order that may have been put in place by manual routing. Generally autorouted boards are somewhat harder for a technician to repair or debug, for this reason. Historically, PCBs used to be laid out by drawing or using stick on paper shapes on mylar film. Electronic Circuit Simulation Electronic circuit simulation uses mathematical models to replicate the behavior of an actual electronic device or circuit. Simulation software allows for modeling of circuit operation and is an invaluable analysis tool. Due to its highly accurate modeling capability, many Colleges and Universities use this type of software for the teaching of electronics technician and electronics engineering programs. Electronics simulation software engages the user by integrating them into the learning experience. These kinds of interactions actively engage learners to analyze, synthesize, organize, and evaluate content and result in learners constructing their own knowledge. Simulating a circuits behavior before actually building it can greatly improve design efficiency by making faulty designs known as such, and providing insight into the behavior of electronics circuit designs. In particular, for integrated circuits, the tooling (photomasks) is expensive, breadboards are impractical, and probing the behavior of internal signals is extremely difficult. Therefore almost all IC design relies heavily on simulation. The most well known analog simulator is SPICE. Probably the best known digital simulators are those based on Verilog and VHDL.

SUMMARY The number of participants in this training seminar was 29 students and the number of issued certificates was 29. As a result the training seminar was successful and the students acquired new information and on how they can use it on their subject, also they can apply it on their businesses.
