REFLECTION OF THE ENVIRONMENT: A sustainable Orphanage We shape our buildings, thereafter they shape us.

Winston Churchill In the past few years many cases of child abuse and abandoning had been the headlines of the news according to them the cases of child abuse is getting higher each year. Since then the government had formed a task force that would help to save the humble children from different sufferings. Orphanage is one of the institutions that became the home of these little angels because every youth deserves a good home especially those children that came from a bad milieu. Sad to say some of the orphanages still lack on proper facilities for the children and most of the problems of the orphanage is their sanitary. The proposal contends to re-conceptualize the usual sociopolitical image of an orphanage that became a basis of an orphanage typology. To create a new system of spatial design it is needed to investigate the relationship of space and the users to create a better outcome. Most of the time the orphans were usually confined between the walls of the orphanage which tend to lessen the inspiration of the orphans to explore and recover from the trauma. It is needed to create a space that would encourage social developments and child flexibility through this the child can continuously build his confidence. The building is needed to be design carefully because the experience within the space is very much important. Creating a therapeutic ambiance can also help to express warmth, security and positive mood to the users. This thesis aims to create a sustainable environment for the users through the use of passive energy or adaptation of the environment. The building must also require minimal maintenance because the orphanage had a very minimal budget. According to some professionals the design of a building influences the behavior of the users. Therefore the institution needs to be very well planned because a good design can also contribute a positive quality of life, productivity, and happiness and can create dynamic effect to the users. This proposal would be very much beneficial to the orphans and local community. THE CHILD PERCEPTION: A Green-Pediatric Hospital We shape our buildings, thereafter they shape us. Winston Churchill Architecture is an urban catalyst that serves the needs of the users. Every individual has its own need depending on their gender and age preferences; each person act differently in every spaces. In relation to this it is evidently known that most children have a bad perception on the hospitals. This thesis challenges to create a child friendly hospital. A pediatric hospital is a health care facility that specialized in treating young patient from birth up to 18 yrs old. The thesis aims to weave the public and private space in a very effective way. These contend to create a different spatial experience for the young patients. On the other hand it aims to develop a new system of spatial design that would help to make good image to the users. Traditional image of a certain architectural program is better if it would be interwoven in a natural therapeutic environment. The materials used in the buildings are also important in terms of sensorial experience of the users that heightened their perception about the place. These thesis aims to develop an institution that can help young patients in their recovery not just in terms of scientific healing but also in terms of environmental healing as well. Aquatic elements are also encourage to use in the design because it can also help in the therapy of the young patients especially those children with sensory, neurological and orthopedic problems. It is believed that Architects and Doctors have common grounds because they both use principles but in different ways. This only shows that if these two fields are intertwined together they can create a much better result. The site for this proposal must be rich in natural landscape that will not only add aesthetics but will also act as a healing environment. This proposal would be beneficial to the young patients, doctors, nurses and the local community.
