MEASUREMENT
The assigning of numbers to individuals in a systematic way as a means of representing properties of the individuals.
Allen, M.J. and Yen, W.M. (1979) Introduction to Measurement Theory
A procedure for the assignment of numbers in such a way as to characterize and preserve specified relationships.

MEASUREMENT
Consists of rules for assigning numbers to objects in such a way as to represent quantities of attributes.
Numally, J.C. (1978) Psychometric Theory
A measure is a location on a line. Measurement is the process of constructing lines and locating individuals on lines.

ORDINAL
Numerical values that order with respect to an attribute Orderings e.g. Positions in which racing cars finish the race, levels of education attained, codes for an item on attitude scale such as strongly disagree=0, disagree=1, agree=2, strongly agree=3.
