via HART input 1. The HART input 2 of the HCU board can be used to connect pressure transmitter for HIMS and HTG or vapour pressure measurement, or to connect a side mounted water probe.
Notes:
1 HTG (Hydrostatic Tank Gauging) only applicable with 877 Field Display & Interface. HIMS is available with the level gauges (servo and radar). 2 Standard, the 762 VITO Interface is connected to HART input 1 and other HART transmitters are connected to HART input 2 of the HCU option board. It must be verified that the maximum values for current and power of the HCU option board HART input 2 circuit are not exceeding the maximum values of the connected HART transmitters. If the values of HART input 2 circuit are too high, then connect the other HART transmitters to HART input 1 and the 762 VITO Interface to HART input 2 (only possible when HART input 1 is available!). Product temperature can also be measured with a Pt100 spot element (RTD) by the optional board. The option for analog level output (4 - 20 mA) is available in different combinations with the temperature, water bottom and pressure measurement.

Note:
Analog level output with the 973 SmartRadar LT is provided by the optional ICU_HPO board. For a description of these functions, refer to section 1.1. The ICU_HPI board has the same input functions as the HCU board; the only difference is the shape of the board, which makes it to fit in the 973 SmartRadar LT.

Introduction
The HCU board can be used to replace the following optional boards: + TPU(-2) board (restricted to Pt100 RTDs only) + MPU board (for average temperature measurement, restricted to MTT or VITO probes only) + HPU board (for average temperature measurement, restricted to MTT or VITO probes only) + HSU board (for temperature measurement, restricted to Pt100 RTDs only)
Note:
Read carefully the installation guide of the HCU board before starting to replace the existing option board.
1.4.1 Replacement or adding optional board in 854 ATG or 854 XTG servo gauges
The HCU optional board requires an XPU-2 board in the 854 ATG and 854 XTG servo gauges. If there is no XPU-2 board installed, then the installed XPU (or XPU-1) board must be replaced by an XPU-2 board.
Notes:
1 When the HCU board is used to replace an optional board with average temperature measurement, please note the following: The 863 MRT with 862 MIR or the 864 MTT with 862 MIT temperature connection cannot be maintained. + The 864 MTT can be connected to the 762 VITO Interface which interfaces to the HCU board. + The 863 MRT cannot be connected to the 762 VITO Interface. 2 The optional data transmission channel on the XPU-2 (i.s. channel for 977 TSI or RS-232C/RS-485 channel) is only possible when backplane-2 is installed. Backplane-2 is standard installed in instruments + 854 ATG with series number: 854-20-400 and higher; + 854 XTG with series number: 894-02-001 and higher.
Note:
The optional data transmission channel on the XPU-2 (i.s. channel for 977 TSI or RS-232C/RS-485 channel) is only possible when backplane-2 is installed. Backplane-2 is standard installed in indicators 877 FDI with series number: 877-17-001 and higher;

2.1 Introduction
A standard Pt100 spot element (RTD) can be measured and its temperature is interpret by the HCU and ICU_HPI board as product temperature. The temperature measurement is intrinsically safe, certified EEx ia IIB. Principle of operation The temperature measurement is based on a 3-wire RTD configuration. Only the ICU_HPI board has the option for a 4-wire RTD configuration. The resistance measurement for 3-wire configuration is performed in the following steps:
+ + + +
The spot element is measured, including the cable resistance The cable resistance is measured separately, and subtracted from the element resistance to avoid influence of the cabling on the temperature measurement Next, the system constant is determined. This is done by measuring an accurate reference resistance (Rref) 0.01% + 2 ppm/C (-40 85C) In order to check the Rref, a test resistor (Rtest) is measured. This resistor has the same accuracy as the reference resistor
These four measurements are performed with and without current to compensate for any thermo or offset voltage in the measuring circuit. The temperature data is displayed (when a display is present) as product temperature and transmitted to the host.
Page 9
Note:
If a 4 wire RTD configuration is used, strap ST4 on the ICU_HPI board must be placed to the correct position (refer to fig. 2.1). MO= RTD position Format according to item LD. MO represents height of the RTD element with respect to the zero point of the level gauge. If the measured level drops below this height the following two actions takes place: 1) The corresponding status bit (bit 3) is set in status byte 1 of item AP (temperature request); 2) The temperature status on the instrument display (if applicable) is set to LR. Format according to item LD. Default: +000.1000 (m). Item MI is a switch hysteresis around the RTD position item MO. One character; default T. This character is transmitted in the temperature status byte to the host in case of: - level below RTD position (item MO) - invalid level reading If required, this item can be set to another character. Exit protection level.

When item EG is set to E, make sure the related level gauge has no temperature option installed. TF= Temperature source selection One ASCII character; either I or E. This item selects if there is a temperature measurement inside the indicator (Internal), or the temperature has to be fetched from the Enraf field bus (External). I : Internal (HCU optional board installed) E : External One ASCII character. With XPU-2, the 877 FDI can be set in stand alone temperature gauge mode. Then item IM has to be set to T. 3.1 Introduction
An Enraf average temperature probe can be: a 764 VITO temperature probe; a 766 VITO water and temperature probe; a 864 MTT.
Depending on the type of 764 VITO temperature probe, there are 15 or 16 spot elements (thermocouples) equally spaced over the measuring range. The temperature measurement is based on thermocouples (spots) and one Pt100 reference resistor. The measuring range is defined as: distance from reference resistor to position highest element. Refer to figure 3.1. A This model has the reference resistor located close to the lower end of the probe. There are 16 spots, equally divided over the measuring range; B Here, the reference resistor is placed at 1 m (3ft3) from the lower end of the probe. One spot is located close to the lower end of the probe to measure temperature at low levels. With this model, there are 15 spots, equally divided over the measuring range; C This is a 766 VITO temperature and water probe. For temperature measurement, this model is equal to B; D This model of 766 VITO temperature and water sensor has 16 spots, equally divided over the measuring range. Hence, there is no spot at the lower end of the water probe.
Using the Enraf average temperature probes (764 VITO temperature probe, 766 VITO water and temperature probe or the 864 MTT) a 762 VITO Interface is required. This 762 VITO Interface is powered by the level gauge (or 877 FDI) over the same two wires as the HART communication takes place to the level gauge. In the level gauge, or 877 FDI, the temperature is calculated. The temperature of all spots immersed in the liquid, are averaged for product temperature calculation. All spots above the liquid surface are used to calculate the average gas temperature. With the temperature (and water) probe models, which have a spot below the reference resistor, that spot temperature is not used in the average product temperature calculations. Its temperature is only used when the product level drops below 1 m (location of reference resistor) to provide the user with a temperature value. However, with status: level exceeds lowest spot element; item MQ, bit 3 of byte 1 is set).

Other (smaller) measuring ranges (sensitive lengths) are possible; check on identification label of the VITO probe (or MTT) for the position of the highest element (last 4 digits; units: cm). The offset is the distance from the lowest element to the tanks zero point (datum plate). The 764 VITO temperature sensor and 766 water and temperature sensor can have the lowest element on different places. This is identified on the instrument label:
+ + + +
lowest element at 0.065 m from lower end of probe; lowest element at 0.065 m from lower end of probe; lowest element at 0.065 m from lower end of probe; lowest element at 1 m from lower end of probe.
With the 864 MTT, the lowest element is at 0.065 m from lower end of probe.
Note:
In the model code given above a dot . represents any character, the notation <ol> means: overall length (4 positions) and the notation <he> means: position of highest element (4 positions). The notation <sl> means: sensitive length (4 positions) and is only used with 864 MTT. The position of the lowest element can also be verified by requesting the VITO device type & s/w version by means of items VP and VV, provided you know if a 764 VITO sensor is connected, or a 864 MTT. 4.1 Introduction
The water bottom probe is based on a capacitive measurement principle. The probe is one plate of the capacitor and earthed, electrically conducting parts as water and the tank shell, is the other plate. A change in water level is detected by the water bottom probe as a change in capacitance.
Figure 4.1 VITO water probes, Side mounted water probe & 964 WaterScout Refer to figure 4.1. A) 765 VITO water probe Can be delivered in three sensitive lengths for the water measurement: 0.5 m, 1.0 m and 2.0 m. B) 766 VITO water and temperature probe There is one sensitive length for the water measurement: 0.5 m. C) 964 WaterScout (previous model) With the introduction of the VITO family, the 964 WaterScout has become obsolete. It can, however, be connected to the HCU / ICU_HPI option board D) Side mounted water probe
Page 23
Note:
The 765 and 766 VITO water probes uses items VR and VT to store the minimum and maximum capacitance values. The measured capacitance by the water probe has a linear function with the water level. Hence, the water level is calculated as: Water level PV PV LRV sensitive length probe water probe bottom position PV URV PV LRV
where:
PV = the measured capacitance by the water probe; with VITO water sensor, item MX is used PV LRV = the minimum capacitance (0% water); with VITO water probe, item VR is used PV URV = the maximum capacitance (100% water); with VITO water probe, item VT is used
or, LW MX VR WP WB VT VR
where:
LW WP WB

Water bottom measurement 4.2.1 Commissioning measurements with roof suspended probes
Figure 4.2 Calibration measurements for water probe If the commissioning takes place directly after installation, the measurements at the probe position in figure 4.2 have already been made if the instructions are followed from the installation guide. Otherwise, that measurement should be made now, by partly removing the probe to enable a measuring tape to be lowered from the nozzle. The following values are obtained: Nozzle height Product level at water probe location Water level at water probe location From these measurements, calculate the ullage value A: A = Nozzle height - product level at water probe location The next step is to fetch the product level with respect to the tank zero point. This can be done in several ways: Read the level from the level gauge if that has recently been checked (calibrated); Take a manual innage measurement to the datum plate of the tank; Take a manual ullage measurement from the Upper Reference Point and calculate the level by: level = URP - ullage. Refer to figure 4.2. At the bottom part of the probe there is an inactive metal part with a height of 25 mm (1"). That is represented as distance B . The offset, which has to be programmed in item WB, can be found from: WB = (A + product level at reference point) - (Nozzle height - B)
Note:
If WB is a negative figure then it is possible to have a negative water level reading.
Calibrating the water probe Refer to Appendix C for information about calibrating the water probe. Where is mentioned the water dip, refer to the measured water level at the probe position as described before.
Page 25
Water bottom measurement 4.2.2 Commissioning measurements for side mounted probes
Figure 4.3 Calibration measurements for side mounted probe From the probe installation must be known: + Active length of probe + Total length of probe + Angle of installation () + Height H of nozzle The water probe length (WP) can be calculated as: WP = active length of probe x cos() Offset (WB) can be calculated as: WB = H - (total length x cos()) When the water bottom measurement has no relation to the tank zero, the offset WB can be used as water probe bottom position. If the water bottom measurement is related to the tank zero, then the water probe bottom position (WB) can be determined when the probe is immersed in some water. The reading of the probe is taken; item LW. A manual water dip is taken from the tank zero point (datum plate); note this value as W . Calculate the water probe bottom position WB as: WB = W - LW Calibrating the water probe Refer to Appendix D for information about calibrating the water probe. Where is mentioned the water dip, refer to the measured water level at the probe position as described above.

5.1 Introduction
The analog level output circuit is an option which can be installed on the HCU board. The HCU board is an option board for the 854 servo gauges, the 873 SmartRadar gauge an the 877 FDI. For the 973 SmartRadar LT, the analog level output is available with the optional ICU_HPO board. The analog output circuit on the HCU and ICU_HPO optional boards are galvanically separated from the gauge electronics. This section (analog level output) describes the settings for analog level output for both the HCU and ICU_HPO board. For the HART communication of the ICU_HPO board, refer to instruction manual 973 SmartRadar LT HART communication output.
Note:
HART communication requires a minimum loop resistance of 250 . The maximum loop resistance for HART communication is 1100 .
This implies that for HART communication the minimum supply voltage is 14 Vdc and the maximum supply voltage is 36 Vdc with a 250 resistor. With a higher external supply voltage, the series resistor must be increased. With the maximum resistor for HART communication (1100 ), the maximum loop supply will be 57 Vdc. The power rating of the external resistance depends on the value; we recommend: 1W/k.
Page 31

Page 32
Analog level output 5.2 Commissioning of analog level output 5.2.1 Setting of analog output 973 SmartRadar LT to active
Setting the analog output loop to active or passive is done by selecting the correct connector on the ICU_HPO board. Standard, the SmartRadar LTs are delivered with the analog output loop set as passive. Hence, an external supply voltage is required. When the analog loop should be set to active, the connector on the ICU_HPO board needs to be changed from position. That procedure is described below. 1 2 3 4 5 6 Switch off mains power from the SmartRadar LT; Open electronic compartment cover; Locate the ICU_HPO board (refer to figure 5.2); Loosen the cable connector from connector CN 1 (passive), and plug it into CN 2 (active); Close electronic compartment cover; Apply mains power.

The WaterScout is a capacitive water probe. The situation at 0% water level means: sensitive part of the WaterScout totally immersed in product. The measured capacitance in this situation must correspond with the PV LRV value. The measured capacitance depends, among other quantities, on the dielectric constant of the product. The WaterScout has been pre-calibrated in the factory, however not in the product, but in air. Therefore, it is required to determine the PV LRV value in the actual measured product. The PV LRV can be programmed by two ways: 1 By means of the command selection switch and command push button 2 By means of the HART Communicator model 275
Caution
If the command selection switch (2) and/or the command push button (1) are operated accidentally, or in the wrong way, the calibration data (PV LRV or PV URV) are lost.
Page 43
Example: % water 125 25 0 100 20 % 500 Manual measurement of water level To calculate the PV LRV value, the actual PV (actual measured capacitance) and the PV URV capacitance with 100% water level) should be known. These two values can be read by the HART communicator. Another way is to request for item PV at the instrument. This item hold the measured capacitance in pF. The PV URV is also printed on the test form supplied with the WaterScout. The PV LRV is then calculated as follows: PV LRV PV URV PV URV PV 100 100 % water
Proceed as follows: Apply power to the instrument to which the WaterScout is connected and wait for approximately 2 minutes. 1 Enter protection level 2 of the instrument.
Note:
If the 847 PET is used, it is advised to disable the keyboard time-out function of the PET.

Make sure the VITO water (temperature) probe is installed properly (refer to installation guide VITO) Check by means of a hand dip the water level. If there is no water found, or the water level is below the sensitive part of the VITO water probe, the measured capacitance is used as the value for item VR. If there is water found within the sensitive part of the VITO water probe, an interpolation is applied on the measured capacitance to find the capacitance value at zero water level. Refer to figure: manual measurement of water level. The interpolation of the capacitance value is done as follows: % water water level 25 mm offset 100 % sensitive length
Example: % water 125 25 0 100 20 % 500 Manual measurement of water level To calculate the value for item VR (minimum capacitance), the actual measured capacitance (item MX) and the maximum capacitance (item VT) should be known. These two values can be read by the PET or via the service program from the instrument. The minimum capacitance value is then calculated as follows: Example: VT MX 1000 840 100 VR 1000 100 800 pF VR VT 100 % water 100 20
Proceed as follows: Apply power to the instrument to which the 762 VITO Interface is connected and wait for approximately 2 minutes. Item W2= MX VT Name Protection level 2 Actual measured capacitance Maximum capacitance Description Enter protection level 2 Read the actual measured capacitance (floating point format). Read the maximum capacitance (floating point format). Program the minimum capacitance; either the value from item MX or the calculated minimum capacitance value (floating point format). Exit protection level.

The side mounted water probe works on a capacitive principle. The situation at 0% water level means: sensitive part of probe totally immersed in the product. The capacitance measured in this situation must correspond with the PV LRV value. The measured capacitance depends, among other quantities, on the dielectric constant of the product. The water probe has been pre-calibrated in the factory, however not in the product, but in air. Therefore, it is required to determine the PV LRV value in the actual measured product. Check by means of a manual dip that no water is present in the sensitive part of the probe. The product level must be such high that it covers the sensitive part of the water probe. Only under these conditions the PV LRV can be determined. The PV URV value is the measured capacitance when the sensitive part of the probe is completely immersed in water. This is also pre-programmed in the factory. The SV value (Secondary Variable) is requested in the communication between the water probe and the instrument. The SV is the measured water level in metres. As the side mounted water probe is installed under an angle with the vertical, the immersed probe length does not correspond with the actual water level (refer to figure at the right). The solution for this is to decrease the probe length value (programmed in SV URV) by the factor cos a. However, this cant be done by the HART communicator. Therefore, another method is used. The span of the PV (PV URV - PV LRV) will be increased by the factor cos . Use the following method: PV URVorg. PV LRV cos

Note:
It is required to have the PV LRV value adjusted to the correct value, prior to use it in the formula above. Example: PV LRV : PV URV : angle : Proceed as follows: Apply power to the instrument to which the water probe is connected and wait for approximately 2 minutes. 1 Enter protection level 2 of the instrument.

Note:
If the 847 PET is used, it is advised to disable the keyboard time-out function of the PET. 2 Issue the Stop HART request command (item SR). This command will abort the HART communication schedular.
Note:
This is necessary as the optional HART board doesnt allow a second master on the HART line.
