A brief look at whats ahead in the week to come: Thursday 17th October: Launch of Sue Moules The Moth Box (The Mustard Seed Caf, Lampeter) Parthian Books will be launching Sue Moules' new collection The Moth Box at 6pm in The Mustard Seed Cafe, Lampeter at 6pm. Thursday 17th October: Open Mic Night with Dai George (The Imperial Hotel, Merthyr Tydfil) An open mic night with Dai George at the Imperial Hotel in Merthyr Tydfil. Entry is free, please contact Gus Payne for further details: gus.payne@merthyr.gov.uk. Thursday 17th October: Poets at the DTC with Sue Hubbard (Dylan Thomas Centre, Swansea) Art critic, novelist and poet Sue Hubbard will be reading from her latest collection, The Forgetting and Remembering of Air. The evening will include an open mic night and tickets are priced at 4 or 2.80 for concessions. For more information visit the Dylan Thomas Centre website. Thursday 17th September Sunday 20th October: North Wales International Poetry Festival (Various venues) Poets from across Europe will be taking part in performances in Bangor, Aberystwyth, Mold, Caernarfon and Portmeirion as part of this festival. New poetry will be offered in Welsh and English translation, with a number of Welsh poets also taking part in the festival. Other events include an open-mic night and a poetry walk which will take poetry around the streets of Bangor. The festival is a collaboration between Bangor University, Aberystwyth University, Poetry Wales and T Newydd Writers Centre and is supported by the Arts Council of Wales, Literature Across Frontiers, Wales Literature Exchange, Literature Wales. Friday 18th October: Octopoet: An Evening of Spoken Word (Coffi House, Cardiff) Coffi House (Wellfield Road in Cardiff) will be the venue for an evening of spoken word with eight writers from 7.30pm on Friday 18th October. Following on from last years successful event, Octopoet will offer a chance to hear award-winning poets reading in a relaxed evening hosted by author Mark Blayney.

17/09/13 Friday 18th October Saturday 19th October: Space, Time Machine and Monster Literary Festival (The Riverfront Centre, Newport)

This literary festival promises an range of sci-fi, fantasy and horror across different events for adults, children and teenagers. Organised by Literature Wales as part of the South Wales Literature Initiative the Space, Time Machine and Monster festival includes workshops, film screenings, panel events and competitions for adults, teens and your little horrors. Confirmed participants so far include: Gwyneth Lewis, Jasper Fforde, Graham Joyce and Catherine Bray among many others. Tickets range in price and are available from The Riverfront website or box office. Saturday 19th October: Voices of Roath (Various venues in Roath) The Voices of Roath event aims to offer a chance to share writing of all forms with the people of Roath across a range of activities. Confirmed events include: Voices of Roath - Saturday 19th October at 8pm: A seasonal event at The Pot Caf (Crwys Road) with a short reading by a professional poet and a short discussion about their work, followed by an open-mic session. Pieces of writing inspired by Roath, Cardiff, and/or the arts will be particularly welcome Made in Roath Bookmobile - Saturday 19th October Sunday 20th October, A special milkfloat bookmobile will be hosted inside the Milkwood Caravan, full of free books which will be available in exchange for a story about an experience in Roath. Follow the bookmobile @writetoempower and @madeinroath2013 on Twitter to find out where it will be stopping. Made in Words Saturday 19th October at 2pm: Authors Mark Blayney, Susie Wild and Robert Minhinnick, will be taking part in a session at the Wellfield Bookshop in Roath from 2pm.

This shortlist for this years Dylan Thomas Prize has been announced with a record seven writers making it onto the shortlist for this prestigious award. A winner will be announced at a ceremony in November, but in the meantime you can check out the shortlist on the Prize website.
