issues of Chilean Concern (2 months) has flown by at an unbelievable rate. We have been in Chile for 10 months now, and are really getting settled into our work. God has blessed

us with many friends, who have given of their financial means, and have also spent hours In prayer for our work. We have reaped the blessing of what you have sowed. Thanks to
God and to you also!

At the end of January, for nearly 3 weeks of February, we were at our leadership camp In El Tabo. In comparison with the first two years of the camp, enrollment was way down, but, thanks to the Lord, so were problems. Fewer people received Invitations this year, as it was limited to people who are actually church leaders. I had four students, but the four that I had were super: a man and wife from Osorno (South), a man from Antofagasta (north) and a young man from Santiago. The five of us, together, studied the book of Phlllpplans. We worked hard, and on some days, even spent as much time qs 3 hours together studying, even though the time alloted for the class was one hour a day. We all felt the Lord's blessing upon us. Our camp, now looking back, was a big success. Praise Jesus!

Goals call for workers in all the major cities of Chi le, and also future expansion to Argentina, and the entire southern cone of South America.
David De Welt, son of Chris and Carol (bom June 20, 1978) went into the hospital with a hernia, and had surgery to correct the condition on August 18. He appeared to be reco vering well, but returned to the hospital on August 26-for more surgery. Please remember

The past few months, we and the Jeff Phillips family have been working together in our our neighborhood. Jeff has gone house-to-house offering the El Encuentro course, and has found big interest. We have been holding a Bible School for the neighborhood children on Saturday mornings. We usually have between 20 and 30 children in attendance each week. Now all of the neighborhood kids call us "Tio David" or' "Tia Rosa" (Uncle David and Aunt Rose). The Prong family is continuing the work that Jeff Phillips had started while he is

DISTRICT OF PUDAHUEL NEWS

What is the "district of Pudahuel"? The District of Pudahuel is a large section of Santiago, on the west side. There are about a million people that live there, many of lower-income families. Pudahuel was also famous as being a "den of leftists". Because of that, many people that live there have lost their jobs, and cannot find work, being black-balled, just by the fact that they live in a place that was basically "leftist"
and are marked by the government as the enemy. '

LADIES' GROUP

Recently we have reported on the growing unity and fellowship In 1nter-congregatlon activities. We men have had more time to spend together, pray together, make plans for Joint activities, etc. than the women have had time to do. However, beautiful things are also happening In the different ladies' groups of the various Santiago congregations

In November, the ladies started meeting together, preachers' wives and missionary wives to set plans for a more widespread fellowship. A retreat was planned to be held

in one of the local congregations on a Saturday. The meeting lasted about eight hours, with evangelism of that section of town, a joint pot-luck lunch, lots of singing and prayer, and three classes. Rose really enjoyed the meeting, and I did too, functioning
as baby sitter to our lovely baby.

It was decided at a planning meeting after the long retreat to have additional ac tivities of that type, at an interval of every other month. The next one is planned for a Saturday in January, and will be a day in the country. At each retreat, three classes will be taught: one class of spiritual help taught by a missionary wife, one class of spiritual help taught by a Chilean woman, and one class of practical help taught by a missionary wife. For example, in the November meeting, the missionary wives took cookie
samples, and taught the women how to make cookies.

On the off month, a special Fellowship Tea will be planned, so that ladies from dif

ferent churches in the Santiago area can get together, to know each other better, to en courage one another, and to learn from each other. Until furlough, Ftose.Is acting as a

PERSONAL EVANGELISM IN MASS

The method is described In An Extension Seminary Primer by Covell and Wagner, in the chapter entitled "Training"in the Streets In Chile". The description Peter Wagner gives in the book is not identical to the method we have been using, but is very similar.
Every Tuesday evening, people from the three churches in Pudahuel get together to do

"personal evangelism in mass" in a certain area.

We usually have about seventy people.

We start off by parading, singing choruses of praise, quoting Scriptures in unison, etc. When we arrive at a promising street corner, we stop, several pe6ple preach mini-sermons to the people In the neighborhood, and then, in the middle of the open-air meeting, we leave the main group In twos, to personal Iy evangelize the people there. We share with them from Scripture about the Good News of Salvation in Jesus Christ, share literature with them, pray with them, and most important, love them with the love of Jesus Christ. Some integrate themselves Into the body of believers, are baptized and evangelize in the same way. "Personal Evangelism In Mass" is by no means the only way, but It works, is faithful to the Gospel, and I thank God that our Chilean brothers have shown us the way.

Did you know that there is an economic boycott against Chile? It is sponsored by union leaders from many different countries of the world, and affects both importations and exportations of Chile. Chilean economists are concerned, and rightly say that the boycott will have more effect on the poor of the country. Economically, Chile is much like the Isreal in the time of the O.T. Prophets, "the rich get richer at the expense of the poor". We are trying to help the poor, and are concerned. Pleafee pray that for our poorer Christian brothers "God will meet all of their needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus." (Phi 11ippians 4:19).

The musical comedy "Fiddler on the Roof" was in Santiago for nine months, in Spanish of course. The protagonist was an Argentine Jew. We went to see the play with Ed and Sara Holt and Phil and Susan Casey during Its last week. It was very well done, al though we probably would have preferred to see it in English.
During the month of January, we will be writing letters to churches to fill in the empty dates during our furlough. We wi I I be requesting specific dates,'that will fit in
with our travels. We have five months to visit churches and individuals scattered from

Colorado to Florida so we appreciate the cooperation you can give us, so that our itin erary is almost completely set before we leave Chile.
We are considering a stop in Guayaquil, Ecuador on our way to the U.S. to visit some friends from our Bible College days who are living and working there.
