Wine Tasting
September in Spain- Thursday, Sep-
tember 3. Come sip on Spanish
Roses and Reds, while sampling
some traditional tapas on a mem-
ber's rooftop patio. We'll also
learn how to make traditional
Spanish Sangria. All members that
attend will be asked to contribute
approximately $8-10 in wine and/
or tapas.

Foundation Focus
The article below was in this month's
Columbia Lighthouse for the Blind
newsletter. WDC Delta Gamma donated
funds raised at this year's Spring Fling to
this outstanding program.
A Glance at Camp Lighthouse
Camp Lighthouse, Monday, June
22, 2009 – Friday, June 26, 2009,
had an outstanding participation of
over 35 campers and over 35 volun-
teers. Camp Lighthouse celebrated
its 50th year providing a summer
camp designed for children who are
visually impaired or blind. The
camp was held at The Catholic Uni-
versity of America. The week-long
camp included Braille education,
recreational activities and independ-
ent living skills.
Volunteers assisted with maintain-
ing the camper’s folders with their
happenings at camp. Recreational
activities included swimming, beep
ball, skit practice and a field trip to
Imagination stage to see Lyle the
Crocodile. Swimming was a bond-
ing experience between campers
and volunteers and an easy way to
have fun. Just like any other camp,
sports are a must. Beep ball was an
encouraging sport that relied on
hearing rather than sight. With the
assistance of sound and guided run-
ners the campers were able to prac-
tice teamwork. As a tribute to the
50th year of Camp Lighthouse,
campers role played the 50s & 60s,
70s & 80s, an d 90s & present
skits during the closing ceremony.
Independent skills were chal-
lenged on Tuesday’s obstacle
course. The obstacle course incor-
porated folding towels, hanging
clothes, placing pillow cases on
pillows and sorting out coins and
utensils. The obstacle course was
inspired by bed making contests
in earlier camps. Overall, campers,
volunteers and everyone involved
had a remarkable time and look
forward to another 50 years.

A Note from GWU DG:
The George Washington University
Delta Gamma chapter (Beta Rho) is
looking for your musical skills for
their preference ceremony during
this fall's formal recruitment.
We would love to have an alumni
play the piano during our prefer-
ence party in Bett's Theater, a black
box theater on GW's campus.
Preference night is September 14th,
from 8:00pm - 11:00pm (two par-
ties, each lasting 1 hour with an
hour break in between).
We would like one, or two, alumni
to volunteer to play for the first 45
minutes of each party.
This year, Panhellenic changed
many rules for formal recruitment,
one of which requires us to hold
our preference night on campus.
Your help with this event will not
only help us stand out during
recruitment, but give this event a
very special meaning to both Poten-
tial New Members (not rushees any-
more!) and our sisters.
