The comedy genre is very much used as a sub genre, such as Rom-Com, Black-Comedy, and ActionComedys, they all have there own conventions. Horror-Comedy combines comedy with traditional horror movie themes and characters. Because of the subject matter, Horror-Comedy films can cross over into the Black Comedy sub-genre. HorrorComedy films aim to scare the audience, but also provide comical outlets that let the audience laugh at their fear. Romantic-Comedy is a genre that attempts to catch the viewers heart with the combination of love and humour. This sub-genre is light-hearted and usually places the two protagonists in humours situation. Romantic-Comedy film revolves around a romantic ideal, such as true love. In the end, the ideal triumphs over the situation or obstacle, then creating a happy ending. Black Comedy is a sub-genre of both Comedy and Serious issues. These films often explore concepts and topics that are considered sensitive. Black Comedy takes topics and situations that are commonly held as serious and explores them in a comical way. Because of this approach, Black Comedies often cause the audience to laugh and feel uncomfortable simultaneously.

Comedy movies generally have strong appeal to the under 25's males and females. Comedy movies provide a perfect opportunity to reach audiences in a fun and captivating environment. A typical audience for a comedy film would be a quadrant audience young, old, male, female as they are appealing to all ages depending on the content of the film a comedy can range from very young ages such as 12 to older more mature ages 12-60+. Personally I feel comedy as a genre is to broad to start labelling primary and secondary audiences as I feel the comedy genre as a collective is appealing to all regardless of there age more in terms of personality.

Comedy as a genre does not really have fixed narrative as comedy films vary massively in terms of structure and events that happen in the films. However there are some common situations in comedy films that appear in many films. The comedy genre in general does follow Todorovs narrative theory in which the film reach all the stages from Equilibrium ,Disruption ,Recognition ,Repair and new state of equilibrium. Without being a fixed narrative as such there are common situations in comedy films that make them easily recognisable for example ,a scene where the main character makes a complete fool of him/herself, or a scene in where someone hurts them self are common in comedy's as they make people laugh.

The Form Finds itself Airplane (1980) -Ex-fighter pilot and taxi driver became traumatized during an unnamed war, leading to a fear of flying. As a result, he is unable to hold a responsible job. His wartime girlfriend now a flight attendant, leaves him. Striker nervously boards a flight from Los Angeles to Chicago on which she is serving, hoping to win her back, but she rebuffs him.

Classic - Dumb & Dumber (1994) The cross-country adventures of two good-hearted but incredibly stupid friends. Parody Epic Movie (2007) A comedic satire of films that are large in scope, reputation and popularity. The Boundaries of the genre stretched- Hot Fuzz & Shaun of the Dead I say this because the films offer comedy and action the genre in these two films can be seen as sub genres i.e.: action comedy

Homage- Piranha 3d, a film that is not intentionally a comedy film however it funny to watch and is a homage of the popular film Jaws.

Richard Dyers theory of utopian solutions works well with this film. The film finishes with a happy ending and is funny, it leaves you feeling good about things. The film has negative events that could be seen as dystopia, however the comedy makes these events humorous.

Death at a Funeral: This film also works with Bulmer and Katz theory of Uses and Gratifications. It fits in with there theory and idea that audiences have identified needs Entertainment and Diversion is one of the needs. Audiences can watch this film as it can allow them to escape from the real world and real life events and can watch something funny in order to cheer them up or satisfy there wants or needs. Bulmer and Katz suggest that there needs for Social Interaction meaning being able to compare your life with the characters or situations that happen in the film. In death at a funeral it allows the audience to relate to characters and also situations in the film for example: a mom or a Nan could relate to the mother in the film having 2 sons and the family gatherings being havoc. The film could quite easily contribute to your personal identity, from watching this film it could say a lot about someone, it shows they are interested in comedy and more than likely to get on with people who watch these sort of films.
