Over theyears, Englishlanguagehasbecomeoneof our
principal assets ingettingaglobal leadership. It
is a single tool for establishing our view
point. Considering the fact, many
initiatives have been taken by
the school to enhance the
speaking and listening
skills of the
students. One
such attempt
has been
the
organizationof EnglishPentathlons
from time to time. Many such
productive Pentathlons were
organizedby thestudents of
classVIII for their J uniors.
At DLFPS we believe that
school should not be a preparation for life
but it should be life itself. To follow what we
believe, DLFPS has a Dramatics Club to its
credit. The regular club session provide an
oppurtunity to the budding actors to polish their
skills. Dramatics Club is helping the DLFites to
live life to its fullest as they experience the life
of various sections of our society. Students are
infused with the thought that acting is not just
being emotional but also being able to express
emotions. The students have always made the
school feel proud as they won the International
Theatre Festival 2008. Also DLFites have
brought laurels in various National and
International Drama
Competitions.

The excitement and zest was palpable
and evident in all the DLFites as they
enjoyed the Holi Celebrations held in
their classes. The little angels were
thrilled as they played Holi with their
friends and Mother teachers. Little kids
lost into thebeautiful colors of Holi was a
perfect sight to lay eyes on. Their teacher
apprised them of the socio-cultural,
religious and biological aspect of the
festival. The little kids joyfully coloured
eachothers faces andwerehappy to seethe
funny faces. Thecelebrationroundedoff with
a reassurance of power of truth given to the
studentsby their Mother teachers.
Holi
Celebrations
For the
complete
experience of
education it is
mandatory to groom every
aspect of a childs personality.
Sports undoubtedly is a major
aspect contributing towards a childs
growth as physical fitness leads to mental
well being too. With a vision of producing
the future sports persons of the country, DLFPS keeps organizing
sports activities in the school from the budding stage.
Children of Class III had a Mini Sports Day in which they
participated in different sports. The girls showed their sportsman
spirit in kho-kho whereas the boys were out of their breath while
participating in different types of races. The Mother teachers
were present to cheer them up and boost their confidence along
with the P.T. Teacher.
DLF Public Schools little
dancing stars moved their bodies to the
beats of different musical albums
celebrating the World Dance Day on
April 29 09. Attired beautifully in the
party apparels for the same, they rejoiced
and exuberated. The little footsteps danced with their Mother Teachers and felt elated. They

Q.
Your Excellency, your contributionin
presenting real India abroad in a
variety of wayshasbeenimmense. How did
the very idea of organizing Festival of
India cameinto being?
A.
TheChairmanof Air Indialovedour
dances, and wanted us to go
international. So, we
decided to
organize
the Ist
Festival of
India.
Ambassador welcomedtheideaandso with
the help of Government of India it was
organized and we did the opening dances
and got the Bhangra Group of South Hall.
This group later performed a dance
sequence with Rekha and Amitabh J i in
London. Actually, we created a dance
performanceespecially for thefestival.
We also transformed the thought about
Indianfood.
We introduced the concept of the non-veg
samosas and placed it in Diwakars Food
Hall.
LataMangeshkar inauguratedit andopened
the eyes of the community in London
regardingwhat Indiawas!
Thats what I did when I was hardly in my
20s. But believe me, it has nothing to do
with the age , it has to do with
nationalism, andcomingfromafamily
of nationalists, the feeling of
nationalismwas very well engraved
into our system, into our bloodby my
parents and by my school, Mater
Dei Convent School. Infact , they
started the National Anthem in
school when my mother
suggestedit.
My dear
friends
and young
upcoming journalists,
youpeoplewill holdthe
torchof revolution, your
thoughts will transform
people. You have to
think at the same level
asI thought.
Q.
Honble
maam,
we school children
are very much
interested in knowing
about your association
with our late P.M.
IndiraGandhi as
you wrote a
book titled Indira
Gandhi - 1028days?
A.
You are asking
meto travel back
in time and those
times were
memorable and
beautiful as I met
alady who wasavery
energetic personality.
Infact, when she spoke to
you, shedripped suchbountiful
gracethat youwantedto belikeher.
When shecameto London, I was studying
my journalism. Inapressconferenceduring
her influential speech she said, Wait and
see and that made me sure that she was
comingback to power andI decidedto write
a book on her. I was fortunate as I knew
people in India who were close to Indira
Gandhi. I interviewed them and gained
insight into her life.
Q.
Being an eminent author
andajournalist, youhavea
rich experience to your credit. In
your opinion, what are the
essential qualities of a
journalist?
A.
A quest for truth and
justice is the key to
successful journalism. Now -a-
days, mediahas asignificant
roleto play. So, whatever
wewritemust carry thegolden line
of truth in it because what media
reflects becomes the basis of
people s perception.So, never
underestimatethe power of
the pen. Keep it with you
and make it feel strong
because thats your souls
writing. I would like you
young people to go for
InvestigativeJ ournalismand
try to explore the truth
hiddenbehindthescreen.
Q.
Why arent political
leaders inour country
taken as good role models
while in US, President
Obama has become a
household name for the
generation?
A.
I read a book about
theUS President Barrack
Obama 2 years ago and said,
This guy is coming to
power . Everyone
questioned my opinion. But
what made me so sure was
his magnetic personality.
Also, his aspiration to bring
in a change is what makes
himdifferent.
Q.
What role do you
think education can
play to make this world a
better placeto livein?
A.
When mind is
without fear, thehead
is heldhighand knowledge
is free , now thats what education is all
about. It s not just about studying in
school, its more than that. It s about
inculcatingtheright valuesand
ethics.
Q
There
could
be so
many
words
of
wisdom
out of your vast
experience. What is your
message to the young
childrenpresent here?
A.
Everyone has a
personality to
grow, a personality to
groom.I amsure youall
will grow into fantastic
personalities due to the
exposure & opportunities provided by
your school. I find you all very
energetic andhighly ambitious as youwant
to beonthetop. Andthisspark will draw the

Harmony and peace is what India has
always strived for. Despite all attempts
we have not been able to achieve a
congenial neighbourhood. Although India
has been trying to strengthen its friendly
ties with Pakistan by various means like
Samjhauta Express, Indo-Pak cricket
matches etc, there is a view that Pakistan
is not reciprocating in the right spirit.
Do you think India should follow suit by
taking a stern stance against Pakistan?
V O I C E S
O F G E N Y
60% DLFites opined that a stern stance on Indias part is the need of the hour as this age long issue needs
to be resolved to attain peace & harmony. However, 26% peace loving DLFites endorse and appreciate
Indias friendly negotiations with Pakistan as they believe that it s only through brotherhood and kinship that an eternal
harmony between the two countries could be obtained.

Message from Alumnus
A young man was
getting ready to
graduate out of
college. For many months he
hadadmiredabeautiful sports
car in a dealers showroom,
andknowinghis father could
well affordit, hetoldhimthat
was all he wanted. As
Graduation Day approached,
theyoung man awaited signs
that his father had purchased
the car. Finally, on the
morningof hisgraduation, his
father called him into his
private study. His father told
him how proud he was to
havesuchafineson, and
told himhow much he
lovedhim. Hehanded
his son abeautiful
wrapped gift
box. Curious,
but somewhat
disappointed
the young man
opened the box
and found a
lovely, leather-
bound Bible.
Angrily, heraisedhisvoiceat
his father and said, "With all
your money you gave me a
Bible?" and stormed out of
the house, leaving the holy
book.
Many years passed and the
young man was very
successful in business. He
had a beautiful home and
wonderful family, but
realized his father
was very old, and
thought perhaps
he should go to him. He had
not seen him since that
graduation day. Before he
could makearrangements, he
received a telegram telling
himthat hisfather hadpassed
away, and willed all of his
possessions to his son. He
needed to come home
immediately and takecareof
thethings. Whenhearrivedat
his fathers house, sudden
sadness andregret filledhis
heart. He began to search
his fathers important
papers and saw the still
new Bible, just as hehad
left it years ago. With
tears, heopenedtheBible
and began to turn the
pages. As he read those
words, acar key dropped
froman envelope taped
behindtheBible. It hada
tagwiththedealersname,
thesamedealer who hadthe
sports car hehaddesired. On
the tag was the date of his
graduation, and the
words...PAID IN FULL.

Grow up! You re 14,
Stop the fuss,
Home before six,
No ifs and buts!
What a mess is made out of me,
Why God did I ever turn 13?
You become rebellious
as you were never
before,
Whatever you say
makes your parents roar.
Nothing is bad from
your point of view,
the words you use are
awesome and new.
Life at school is the best,
Finally you are just like the rest.
Peer pressure or
call it peer influence,
all your studies are
now in ruins.
The teacher
tired of
forcing you to concentrate,
Throws up her hands and
resigns to fate.
Then one fine day
you scream out loud,
seeing the pimple
just before going out,
entire evening you
search and moan,
Advices from parents
just make you groan.
Why are you becoming
like that, I wanna know,
The parents favourite question and
The most common reason for a row.

Adolescence The Key
Dear
Ma'am,
I lose
my
temper
easily.
Whenever my
mother tries to
tell me to do
something or
correct me, I shout at
her and feel miserable
and guilty later. Please tell
me how to control my temper.
(A DLFite of Class - VII)
I amglad that you have realized that you are
short tempered and need help to control it. Losing
onestemper only leadsto bitterness, strainedrelationships
and unhappiness. You must remember that your mother loves you
very muchandwants thebest for you.
Beingamother, shewantsto bringyou
upintheright way. Asachildit isyour
duty to listento her andrespect her. Now very
often you may not agree with her and may
perceive her corrections as a scolding or a
criticism. Thismakesyouloseyour temper andscreamat her, thereby makingboth
of youunhappy. Whenoneis angry, oneoftenends upsayingor doingthings one
doesnt really mean. Youreally needto control your anger.
First andforemost, listento your mother anddo not giveher areasonto scoldyou.
If she does, just refrain fromsaying anything immediately. Certain distraction
techniques likecountingtill 10, drinkingwater etc. canbetried. Divert your mind
to
something
pleasant or
walk away
from the
situation. When
you have calmed
down you can go and
have a chat with your
mother. Apologiseto her. A
hug from you will help her
know that youdidnt really mean
what you said in anger. Parents can
also makemistakes, andif youfeel that
your mother is not justifiedinscoldingyou,
just be patient. When both of you have calmed
down, sit downandexplainto her thesituation.
Dear Ma'am,
I am fat and so everybody teases
me. What to do? I am 13 years old.
Obesity seems to beacommonproblem.
Our food and lifestyle contribute a great
deal to this. Hereditary factors also play
an important role. Very often we find
obesity running in families. Some are
born with a tendency to put on weight
while others have a high metabolic rate
andburnupcalories fast. Hence, they do
not put onweight. It is important to loseextrakilograms but at your ageit is not
advisable to diet as you are in the growing stage and require a balanced diet.
However, eat inmoderation. Avoidchocolates, fizzy drinks, fatty andfriedfoods.
Takebrisk walksor jog.

children to keep their feet
on the ground, put some
responsibility on their
shoulders" ------- Abigail
VanBuren.
During my
interaction with
parentsof pre-teens
and adolescents,
one common thing that I found was that
most of them were concerned about
makingtheir childrenresponsible. Most of
them complained that their teenagers
avoided doing any work (arranging
cupboard, fetchingthings frommarket
etc). Parents expectations were met
with the famous teenage rebellion.
The question for which they
wantedto seek ananswer was At
what age do we give responsibilities to our children? The answer
wouldbafflethem. Expertsareof theopinion assoonasachildis
ableto walk. Let himor her also takethefirst steptowardsbeing
responsible. It is usually seenthat whenthechildrenaresmall,
parentsfindtheir adorabledarlingstoo cuteandwouldliketo
be at their beck and call all the time. Whereas, generally
youngchildrenarevery eager to helptheir parentsinany
way they can. Thisenthusiasmshouldbetappedrather
than being discouraged. Though grown ups may
find it easier and more convenient to complete
thetask efficiently and quickly but by doing
this they rob the child of the pride and
satisfaction that comes with
contribution.
Parents may wonder
that a3or 4year old
child is
very small. What kindof work canbegivento them?
Works likepicking up toys and putting themback in
place, watering the plants, helping setting the table,
folding towels and napkins, dusting or neatening the
roometc. canbeenjoyedby thechildren. Weneedto
note that when a young child is doing these
small chores he is learning perceptual,
classificationandidentificationskills also. But
parents need to be patient as small children
may need assistance. Giving age appropriate
works to children make themfeel that they
are valuable members in the household.
Right now they areeager to learnthis. This
self - reliancedoes not magically occur at
theageof eighteen.
Experts also feel that for achildthe
right timeto help may bewhen he/she
shows an interest in what you are
doing or asks to be involved. Care
that shouldbetakenby theparents
is that things arekept in organized and orderly way in thehouseso
that thechildrenknow whereto put themafter use.
Praise and appreciation work wonders. Another important
tool isinitiativebehavior (small childrenwouldliketo do work
asyoudo). Try to makejobsfunfor your child.
Every parent wants to raise responsible and
independent child. If children have been given little
responsibility as youngsters, they often find it hard to
cope with the difficulties of adolscence. Children
love being given responsibility. The message
they get fromparentsis I believethat youcan
dothis!
