Students who are interested in energy as a part of their career will want to check out the EPIC building. It is a building solely dedicated to energy. If you are passionate about innovating new ways to save the world then EPIC is the building to go. EPIC enhances the available technical workforce, advances technology and facilitates the strategic industry-university collaboration for the global energy industry while supporting the Carolinas economic and energy security development, (Vision). Given EPICs mission statement, this speak to you in some way, if you agree. Then keep reading this selection you might find that this is the place you want to be.

Mark Boomgarden is very influential when it comes to EPIC. If you are looking for someone to ask questions about real world experience in corporations, managing positions, and head of operation Mark Boomgarden is Vice President and General Manager at DigitalOptics Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tessera Technologies, Inc. Boomgarden joined DigitalOptics from Tessera, where he served as General Manager of that companys wafer-level optics organization, and previously as Vice President of Tesseras Wafer Level Camera technologies.

One upcoming event that it going on in EPIC is a seminar about optimizing electricity distribution operations. Arnie is will introduce a new program called Smart Grid. Arnie de Castro is the Principal Product Manager responsible for the Distribution Optimization solution in the Global Energy Practice at SAS in Cary, North Carolina. He has over 30 years of experience in building commercial software and in teaching, research and consulting for operations research applications in electric utility operations, expansion planning and resource management His publications cover the areas of decision analysis applications in generation planning, power system simulation and optimization, and energy and emissions modeling. Dr. de Castro received his PhD in Electrical Engineering at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia in 1995, and is a member of the IEEE Power Engineering Society,(EPIC Seminar)

From the point of view of a freshman student taking a computer engineering class in EPIC, Joseph Oh has the privilege of taking a class in the building. Although a far walk from The Student Union to EPIC, Joseph has enjoyed using a special program called Lunix. Lunix is a computer program like windows except for it is made mostly for programmers. In this class he has to write programs using the language C++ (Oh). According to the UNCC Alumni Association during the grand opening of EPIC there were 300 visitors in the buildings High Bay Lab to watch a structural design demonstration. EPIC stands for Energy Production and Infrastructure Center, the whole building cost 76 million dollars. "EPIC Advisory Board." EPIC in Action. N.p., n.d.
