Discussion: The first part of the experiment was performed to determine the effect of ambient air temperature on the coefficient of performance in the condenser (COPwater). Before the effect of the air source could be determined, the water flow rate was varied to determine the heat transfer rate in the condenser and evaporator. As the condenser-water flow rate increased, the condenser pressure increased and the COP of the condenser-water decreased. This result was expected due to the higher rate of heat transfer that occurs when the condenser-flow rate is increased. the COP for the heated air system will decreased with higher pressures. This was expected due to the decreased evaporator efficiency that resulted with heated air. Since the temperature difference is higher with non-heated air, more heat transfer occurs in the evaporator. This forces the system to produce a larger cooling effect without working the compressor harder, increasing the system COP. The effectiveness of the condenser increased as the water flow rate increased. Since the surface area of the condenser was constant, the heat transfer rate increased as the mass flow rate of the water increased. This was expected since higher fluid velocities at the surface of the heat exchanger generally result in higher heat transfer coefficients. the higher flow rate of water through the evaporator increased the COP of the system. The COP also decreased as the condenser pressure increased. the decreasing trend of the COP with increased condenser pressures, but a higher COP with increased flowrate Similar to the air-to-refrigerant evaporator, the effectiveness of the system increased as the flow rates through the condenser and evaporator increased.the refrigerant heat transfer increased significantly as the flow rate of the water through the evaporator increased. However, refrigerant heat transfer did not change as the condenserwater heat transfer increased. For the water-heated evaporator part of the experiment, COP increased for both the water and refrigerant as the evaporator-water flow rate was increased. However, both COP decreased as condenser pressure increased. For both evaporator-water flow rates, the system effectiveness increased as the condenser-water flow rate increased. Also, the refrigerant heat transfer increased as the evaporator-water flow rate increased, but no change occurred as condenser-water heat transferred increased. In general, the COP values were lower than expected due to heat added by the fan, compressor and surrounding environment.
