From the desk of Jeanene Sampson, Principal: Just a few reminders from the principals office This time of year can get so busy for families with concerts, games, work schedules, holidays, etc. that keeping a schedule can be challenging at best. I know for my own kids, I am constantly checking the district website for the calendar of events and writing stuff down all the time. December is off the ground and running. Just a few reminders that will help keep our focus for the remainder of 1st semester. First semester ends on December 19th. Teachers will be finishing up grading and must have grades posted by 5:30 on December 19th. We will send report cards home the first week the students are back to school AFTER break. Common district assessments are given the last school week in December so remind your student to work hard to prepare all the way to the end!

From the Library:

Remember the Barnes & Noble Book Fair is December 7! It is also Educator Discount Day for those of you working in schools! Book Bash members will be there to wrap your BN presents for a free will donation. NMS artwork will be on display and there will be performances by our music students! Just say you are supporting North Middle when you check out. For online shopping, please use our ID number 10984680. The profit will be used to buy more books and Nook books in the library! Seventh graders are researching their favorite authors in the library. They are typing an essay and starting a visual project of their choice. The final step will be to create a bibliography using our database called NoodleTools. Some students have permission slips signed to check out a Nook to read books. Please encourage your children to return items on time and to pay or work off their late or lost book fees. The user name and password for our online databases (see www.siouxcity schools.org, find Our Schools and select North Middle ) are posted at school. These cannot be posted online but blue bookmarks are available with this info. Please encourage your children to visit the library website for great references sources; some are provided by our Northwest Area Education Agency. Examples include Culturegrams, Rosens CyberSmarts, World Book Online, Atomic Learning, EBSCO, SIRS, Soundzabound, Gale, Marshall Cavendish, Visual Thesaurus, FreedomFLIX and TrueFLIX. Again this year there are eBooks through MackinVIA! Over 700 are available at www.mackin.com/via or on the library web site. Contact Ms. Sweeney or Mrs. Jarman if you have questions.
