Year 5, 6, 7,

Did you have fun on your camp and do you think we
should have had more days there?

C.P: Yes I did enjoy the camp and no I don’t think we


needed more days there because it was too hot.

G.H: Yes I did have fun and I don’t think we needed


more days there, it was long enough.

Did you like the activities and what were your


favourite ones?

C.P: Yes I liked all of the activities especially the


flying fox and swimming in the pool.

G.H: Yes I loved the activities. Rock climbing and


kayaking were my favourite.

Did we need more time to do the activities?

C.P: Yes we needed more time to do the activities


but they were all fun to do. Each year each year level has a camp.

M.A.G.S Biggest
Morning Tea!

The Biggest Morning Tea was a


great day where people brought in
cakes of all kinds to sell at a stall.
The stall was run by members of
the SRC committee. Everyone
brought lots of delicious food. A
raffle was also run to raise even
more money with the prize being
one of two giant Kit Kats, made by
Mrs Downie, weighing about 5 kg.
The prize was won by two lucky
winners Carly James and Imogen
Allan. It was a fantastic day, with
lots of money raised and everybody
enjoyed it.

We have 2 science
laboratories and we
have one double
class each week in
there doing lots of
experiments and
learn heaps. We also
have one theory
class were we study
practical reports and
experiments that we
have just done in our
double lesson. We
learn about the
laboratory
equipment and
TRY THIS EXPERIMENT. different elements of
Chromatography Of Food Colouring science.

You will need

• Food colouring (that is made up of several colours – check the label on the bottle)
HAVE FUN
• Filter paper
• Watch glass WITH
• Scissors SCIENCE!!
• Capillary
• 250ml beaker
• Pencil

Method

• Cut a piece of filter paper approximately 10cm by 3cm.


• Rule a line in pencil 2cm from the end of the paper.
• Place some food colouring on a watchglass.
• Use a capillary tube to place one drop of food colouring on the centre of the pencil line on the
filter paper.
• Pour tap water into the beaker to a depth of 1cm.
• Stand the filter paper so that the end just dips into the water. Make sure that you keep the
dot of food colouring out of the water.
• Fix the filter paper to a pencil to hold it in the water.
• Let the filter paper stand until the water has risen almost to the end of the filter paper.
• You could repeat this experiment using Smarties instead of food colouring (Mix a Smartie with
one drop of water in a watchglass until the water is brightly coloured and place the drop on
the filter paper.)
