a phrase with a to-infinitive.
Look at the following examples:

- Dado da Gomez trained hard to perform well on the

flag-raising ceremony.
- We want to raise money to give to charity.
- Marcia is writing out Christmas cards to send to her

GERUND AND GERUND PHRASE
The gerund is a noun which is formed by adding –ing
to the base form of verb.
For example:
 Adinda’s hobby is hiking. (gerund)

We often use the gerund and the gerund phrase

when we talk about hobbies.
For example:
 Gardening is my favorite pastime. (gerund)
 Mira’s hobbies are listening to music and reading
novels. (gerund phrase)
Continue . . .
The gerund and the gerund phrase often follow
verbs that express likes and dislikes; for example,
the verbs like, enjoy, dislike, hate, can’t stand.

EXAMPLE:
• Sarifah loves singing.
• I enjoy watching TV movie.
• My brother hates working in the garden.

Continue . . .
NOTES:
(1) Common nouns and popper nouns (names) may also
follow these verbs.
• I love TV movies.
• Kina can’t stand rap music.
• Aunt Lina likes Elvis Presley a lot.

(2) After the verbs like and love, the to-infinitive can
