Ajinkya Madhukar Rahane ( ) (born 5 June 1988) is an Indian cricketer.[1][2][3] He is a right-handed batsman, who made his ODI debut against England at Chester-le-Street in September 2011 and made his Test debut in March 2013.[4] Rahane has cleared his ssc from S. V. joshi Highschool,Dombivali. He made his first-class firstclass debut in 2007-08 season and averaged an astonishing 62.04 after 100 first-class innings. He made his T20I debut at Manchester in August 2011 and was soon went to play ODI cricket as well. After he showed promise in the series, he was drafted into the Test team. But, Rahane remained a part of India's Test squads for about 16 months, unable to break into the playing eleven. Seven players (R Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Varun Aaron, Vinay Kumar, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shikhar Dhawan), including a specialist batsman and a spin-bowling allrounder, made their debut during this period and media began to refer Rahane as "permanent drinks-fetcher and substitute fielder".[5][6]

With Shikhar Dhawan injuring his fingers in his debut Test, Rahane finally made his debut as a middle-order batsman in the 2013 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.[5] Rahane represents Mumbai in domestic competitions and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

This was before his Ranji Trophy Debut. He progressed through the Mumbai ranks and has also been a part of the Indian U-19 team and the India 'A'. Ajinkya Rahane has also turned out for India Blue & Green in the Challenger Series, and West Zone in the Duleep Trophy.

First-class[edit]
Rahane made his first-class debut for Mumbai against Karachi Urban in the Mohammed Nissar Trophy in September 2007, at Karachi, when most of the first-choice Mumbai players were unavailable for various reasons. He scored a century on debut 143 (207) against the Karachi urban attack comprising Anwar Ali.[8] He made his Ranji Trophy debut for his First-class side Mumbai in the 2007/2008 season. His wonderful Ranji season followed an impressive showing in the 200708 Duleep Trophy, where he scored 172 against an England Lions attack comprising Graham Onions, Monty Panesar, Steve Kirby and Liam Plunkett He continued to impress in domestic cricket, scoring three hundreds each in the 200910 and 201011 seasons of the Ranji Trophy. International career[edit]
Test Matches[edit]
He was a part of the Indian Test squad that toured Australia in 201112, however he did not get a Test cap. Due to the star studded batting line-up of Indian Test Team comprising Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, V.V.S.Laxman, Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir at top, he has been unable to find the spot in Indian Test Team despite several good performances in domestic cricket as well as in India-A tours. He made his debut in Test cricket on 22 March 2013 against Australia in the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium Delhi, India at the number 5 position.
