On Friday, August 29th Cassidy invited her dad, Ed Nerland to our
class to talk about his job with Hamilton County Secondary Roads.
Mr. Nerland gave an amazing presentation that really got the third
graders fired up! First he gave the class a short quiz to see if they
could identify bags of dirt, rock salt, gravel, and limestone. As you can
see in the pictures below, the students were very intrigued. Next Ed
showed the class pictures of the equipment he uses, and a terrific
video of him performing his job.

Mr. Nerland also addressed the skills and character traits needed for
his line of work..
Writing-keeping records, organizational skills-knowing what you
have to do and doing it without someone telling you to, mechanical-
changing oil and blades on the equipment, trustworthiness-working
fast but safely, responsibility-watching out for other people on the
road, caring-helping people out when they’re stranded in the winter

Advice that Ed gave the third graders, “Do your least favorite task
first, then you don’t have to worry about it all day. Love your job! If
you enjoy your job, nothing seems too tough to handle!”

Thanks Ed! Your presentation was AWESOME!
