December is here, and it is time to come together with all your friends and family to celebrate the holidays! During his time of the year FBLA is on the down low, but this is also the time for everyone to start getting pumped up for the next Chapter Challenge! January 15-March 1 begins the next installment of the Chapter Challenge. This is a great opportunity to get your chapter involved. So get ready to show your FBLA Pride!

Why a newsletter?
One of the projects the State Parliamentarians Council (SPC) will work on this year will be a newsletter. Information will be published regarding the various community service projects WV FBLA is involved in. Heres some of what we have going on this year: WV FBLA -PBL wants to work this year with March of Dimes much closer than in years past, and we encourage each chapter to plan a March of Dimes Walk. There will also be another State Service Project, Financing the Future. More information regarding these events is featured in the newsletter. You should also be sure your chapter gets some small community service projects going in your county or neighborhood. Everybody needs help in some way this day and age, remember that FBLA lives on Service, Education, and Progress, and help service your community. If interested in having a story of a service project your chapter completed featured in the newsletter, feel free to contact Kali Templeton at kalitempleton@gmail.com!

Community Service Awards

The 2013-2014 FBLA Nation Officer team has started a new program called The Community Service Awards (CSA), which will recognize chapters and members with extraordinary commitment to their community at NLC. The program has four levels divided by hours of service served: CSA Future, 50 hours; CSA Business, 150 hours; CSA Leader, 300 hours; CSA America, 500 hours. These hours are cumulative and build up through every year a student has served in FBLA. Those honored will be pinned at the National Leadership Conference, as well as receive a certificate from the National Officer Team. The CSA program in West Virginia, will also award the chapter points in the Games of Greatness, which are sponsored by the State Officers. Points are as follows: Future receives 25 points; Business, 50 points; Leader, 100; and America, 200. Chapter Advisers must register members for the Community Service Awards. Any questions can be directed to general@fbla.org or kalitempleton@gmail.com.

Financing the Future

Are you ready to make a difference? This year, WV FBLA will sponsor an entirely new state service project geared towards increasing the level of financial literacy within local communities. The idea behind it is simple-each WV FBLA chapter is challenged to create a lesson plan that teaches some element of financial literacy and present this lesson plan to a local elementary or middle school. The plans may be as simple or complex as the individual chapter desires. Whether you are teaching a third grade class about the value of saving money or teaching a middle school class how to budget, you are helping your community. Financial literacy is a vital, yet often overlooked area of education. By teaching these skills early on, a difference may be made in the lives of students who practice safe spending from the start of their financial lives. Not only are you making a difference in the classroom, but you also may make a difference in their lives. When you go into these classrooms and interact with these students, you will have the opportunity to be a role-model for these students and you will be able to demonstrate to your community what fine, upstanding students FBLA has to offer! Chapters will have until March 1st to complete this project. In order to receive credit for this project, chapters must submit information regarding their project to Kali Templeton at kalitempleton@gmail.com. Chapters will receive fifty points towards The Games of Greatness simply for submitting a project, and the top three chapters will receive extra points as well. Good luck in all your endeavors!
