Bus Transportation Services

Department of Transportation Services is commented to providing all members of the Rutgers New Brunswick/Piscataway campus with the best possible solutions for getting around campus safely and easily.

Programs & Services: Knight Mover 732-932-RIDE (7433), New Brunswick Quick Shuttle, Library Shuttle, and Disability Transportation. -Dont believe the myths! The tickets are real and if you dont pay them the department will put a financial hold on your record. -Make use of mexbus.com and plan your rout ahead of time. -The Rutgers University bus system is the largest university bus system in the country and 50 largest bus system in the country. -During the semester are 40 buses running with 10 routes.

Rutgers University Police Department

On all campuses, the Rutgers University Police Department operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to provide the university community with a full range of police and security services. RUPD # 732-932-7211 -RUPD provides escorts to students, faculty and staff upon request.

Rutgers Libraries

Alcohol Studies Located on the Busch Campus (Brinkley & Adele Smithers Hall) The Center of Alcohol Studies Library houses collections dealing with the biomedical and psychosocial aspects of beverage alcohol, its use, and related consequences. A growing amount of literature on other drug use/abuse has been added in recent years. Alexander Library (AL) Located on the College Avenue Campus Alexander Library is the oldest and largest of the Rutgers University Libraries. It supports doctoral programs in anthropology, economics, geography, history, linguistics, literature (classical, comparative, English & American, French, German, Italian, Spanish & Portuguese), philosophy, political science, and sociology. Alexander also supports four professional schools: the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning & Public Policy; the Graduate School of Education; the Graduate School of Social Work; and the School of Communication and Information - all of which include doctoral programs.

In addition, Alexander supports major interdisciplinary programs in African studies, Latin American studies, medieval studies, and South Asian Studies, as well as undergraduate study across the range of the humanities and social sciences. Located on the College Avenue Campus (Voorhees Hall) The Art Library holds a non-circulating collection which supports the research and instructional needs of scholars in art and architectural history, visual arts, and related programs and disciplines within Rutgers. Collection fields include art, architecture, decorative arts, and historic preservation. Chang (Stephen & Lucy Chang Science Library) Located on the Cook Campus (Walter E. Foran Hall- 1St Floor) The library's print and digital collections cover the areas of agriculture, animal science, aquaculture and fisheries, bio- resource engineering, environmental studies, food science, human ecology, landscape architecture, marine science, natural resources, nutrition, and plant science. Chemistry Located on the Busch Campus (Wright-Rieman Laboratories) The biochemical/biological chemistry area is emphasized in the collection, in addition to analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry. Douglass (Mabel Smith Douglass Library) Located on the Douglass Campus Two major areas: women's studies and the performing arts (music, dance, theater). The women's studies reference and research collection comprises print and non-print material and focused mainly on sexuality and gender studies, feminist theory, the history of mothers and marriage, and the history of feminist movements and women's rights throughout the world. East Asian Located on the College Ave Campus (Within in the Alexander Library) Collection of monographs, serials, and microfilms. The Library's main collection currently has more than 150,000 volumes, of which more than 130,000 are in Chinese, about 7,500 in Japanese, and about 2,500 in Korean. At present, the Library subscribes more than 200 titles of periodicals and newspapers and its collection of back issues compasses over 1,000 titles. Fordham Lab Located on the Douglass Campus (Within the Mabel Smith Douglass Library) The Library houses a Media DVD and videotape collection; the Fordham multimedia lab provides hardware and software for editing video, graphic and audio works Foster Center (Margery Somers Foster Center) Located on the Douglass Campus The MSF Center is a unit of Rutgers University Libraries dedicated to developing co-curricular initiatives on visual technology and networked culture. Kilmer Located on the Livingston Campus Kilmer has many classrooms to study in as well as many computers to use. Also, contains collections on undergraduate education, primarily containing business collections, and some career sources materials. Library of Science & Medicine Located on the Busch Campus The Library of Science and Medicine (LSM) houses the primary print research collections for the following disciplines: behavioral science, biological science, earth and geological science, engineering, medical science, pharmaceutical science. Mathematical Sciences Located on the Busch Campus (Hill Center- 1st Floor) It supports the research and educational needs for the departments of computer science, mathematics and statistics as well as the research centers such as DIMACS, RUTCOR, SYCON and WINLAB. It provides access to the Library Catalog, electronic journals, indexes, and the Internet. A full range of services, such as reference and interlibrary loans is available. Media Center Located on the Douglass Campus (Within the Mabel Smith Douglass Library) The Media Center is a unit of the Rutgers University Libraries offering moving image and recorded sound materials, including the collections of the Laurie Music Library, to students, faculty, and staff on all Rutgers campuses. Music (Blanche and Irving Laurie Music Library) Located on the Douglass Campus (Within the Mabel Smith Douglass Library) The Blanche and Irving Laurie Music Library and Media Services, located in the Douglass Library, provide videos and sound recordings as well as viewing/listening devices. Has scores, sheet music, audio and video recordings and online streaming recordings. Physics Located on the Busch Campus (Serin Physics Laboratory) Collection emphasis is focused in the following major subject categories: (1) condensed matter physics, (2) elementary particle and high energy physics, (3) nuclear physics, and (4) astrophysics. Other important subject areas include surface physics, statistical physics, and quantum theory SERC Reading Room - Located on the Busch Campus (Science and Engineering Resource Center) Schimmel Rare Book Library (Herbert D. and Ruth Schimmel Rare Book Library) Located on the College Avenue Campus (Within the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum) The collection includes original, illustrated French books and periodicals dating from 1865-1915. The Schimmel Library has an online catalog that anyone may search via the World Wide Web. School of Management and Labor Relations Located on Douglass Campus (Labor Education Center) Offers reference and information services to the students and faculty of the School of Management and Labor Relations (SMLR), the larger Rutgers community, labor relations and human resource management professionals, and the working people and employers of New Jersey. Maintains a specialized collection of journals, texts, reporting services and databases in industrial relations and human resources. Special Collections and University Archives Located on the College Avenue Campus Within its four major divisions (Sinclair New Jersey Collection, Manuscript Collection, Rare Book Collection, and University Archives), Special Collections and University Archives collects, preserves, and makes available primary sources of a rare, unique, or specialized nature to support advanced study and research in the humanities and social sciences. RU-Online: The Rutgers Digital Library This is a digital library of resources that are available simultaneously to all Rutgers users. The collection is composed of full text and full image books, periodicals, government publications, music, video and other resources including purchased electronic databases and indexes. How to access RU-Online: RU-Online titles are accessible through the Library Catalog, where Electronic access links in the cataloging records bring the resources directly to your desktop.

10. Office of Social Justice Education and LGBT Communities


the Office of Social Justice provides programs to LGBT students, allies, and staff about education, social, and leadership development activities. -Livingston Social Justice Learning Community: for first residential and commuter students interested in exploring social justice issues and attending a free Alternative Spring Break. -Rainbow Perspectives: for students interested in exploring lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues outside of the classroom. -Roommate-Matching: for first-year and transfer students who are interested in being paired with a student interested in LGBTQ issues. -Gender Neutral Housing: in four residence halls, providing students the opportunity to select a known roommate of any gender.

14. Honors Programs


Honors program for SAS, Engineering, SEBS, and Pharmacy Email questions to: honors@sas.rutgers.edu, or respective school for which the student has questions In addition to challenging seminars and courses, honors undergraduates participate in peer mentoring programs; research opportunities; internships and co-ops; special housing options; extensive personal advising; and social and cultural events. Each school offers honors housing to its students. There is also an opportunity for departmental honors. Students who qualify are required to write senior honors theses. A common first year question is: how can I be in the honors program? -- Must have a certain SAT and high school GPA to gain admittance. Check respective schools websites for details on this criterion. Additionally, if a first year student does not initially qualify, if they earn a 3.7 GPA or higher their freshmen year, they can apply and gain admittance into the honors program. Commuter FAQs General FAQs/Special Programs: All commuting women are welcome to join the Douglass Residential College.

They are appointed a Commuter Peer Academic Leader who advises and ensures involvement with all group activities Parking and Transportation: http://rudots.rutgers.edu/studentpark.shtml Need your netID, license plate number, state, make, and color of your car, a credit card to register Commuter permits are mailed to your house Additional vehicles are allowed per permit, but you only get one hang tag to switch between cars. Cost for Deck Permit (Zone A & D) Cost for a Surface Lot permit (Zone B, C, & L) Permits go on sale in the first or second week of August Eating On/Around Campus: o Commuters can choose between 2 meal plans if desired: 75 Plan $990 per semester. The 75 offers an average of 5 meals each week. 50 Plan $770 per semester. The 50 meal plan allows an average of 3 meals each week. o Microwaves are available on every campus to heat up food including the campus center convenience stores and the Student Activities Center convenience store. o There are Food Service Vendors in all of the Student Centers around campus. o Locations on and around campus accept RU Express.
