Dear Eastminster Family, What a great day of worship yesterday! I was grateful for the choirs rich music, the officers thoughtful prayer of dedication, the sincere words of thanks to the outgoing officers, and the depth of the pastoral prayer. But I was also filled with hope at the sight of twenty cradle roll children born in 2013, carried in their parents arms and presented in Gods house during the 9:00 a.m. service. We are blessed as a church family to have so many children entrusted to us us, and I commend parents who are being intentional about nurturing faith in their child(ren). Then, at 11:15 a.m., extra chairs were set up in the Jubilee Service, and, in the sanctuary, the men and women who compose our class of 2016 were set apart as Deacons and Elders. I never cease to be humbled by the sight of men and women making vows to serve faithfully, kneeling before our Lord, and being engulfed in the laying on of hands and prayers of the Body of Christ. As always, there are stories within the story the couple carrying a child whose journey to parenthood has had more twists than anyone will ever know; the newly ordained officers who, fully knowing both their unworthiness and that Gods grace is even bigger, are committing themselves afresh; and the young Deacon who felt on his shoulders the hands and prayers of two former youth advisors whom God had used to open his eyes to Christs love. Thanks be to God for his great love- and for the privilege he gives us of sharing his love with others. Preach it! Whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17 Love,
Brad

At our January 28 meeting, scrimshaw artist Peter Driscoll will give a talk on this ancient and nearly lost art of etching on ivory. Using the traditional manner of whalers, he works completely by hand without the use of power tools or machinery and only on antique piano keys or other forms of recycled or fossilized ivory, not legally banned. Some of his pieces will be on display. Call Mary Baldauf at 256-1654 or email mbaldauf@eastminsterpres.org to make a lunch reservation ($6.00).
