SHOULDER STABILIZATION EXERCISES PHASE II

The following is your personalized exercise program prescribed by your physical therapist. Please review the instructions and perform the exercises as prescribed (frequency, number of repetitions). If your symptoms feel worse with any exercise, stop doing the exercise until you check with your physical therapist or your doctor. 1. Seated Chair Press Sit near edge of chair with feet on floor. Grasp sides of chair, keeping hands in line with shoulders. Bring shoulder blades down and back. Press downward through hands, slightly elevating the body. Hold for 2 seconds. Lower slowly.

2. Seated Rowing Sit with arms slightly forward, elbows bent, palms facing down with a weight of _____ #. Squeeze your shoulder blades while rotating palms up, bringing elbows just beyond sides of body. Return to start position.

3. Ball On Table Roll Place ball on table at hip height. Rest hand on ball. Set shoulder blade. Press down on ball. Roll ball forward a few inches, maintaining set position. Return to start position.

4. Push Up Plus - Table Lean forward with hands on table, keeping head, neck, back and hips in line with each other. Push chest away from table rounding upper back, allowing shoulder blades to come apart and forward. Hold for 2 seconds. Return to start position (avoid shrugging shoulders toward ears)

For the following 4 exercises: Lie on your stomach (prone position) with forehead resting on a towel or with head turned to the side. Place exercising arm off edge of bed or table. 5. Prone Extension Make a fist, palm faces back. Squeeze your shoulder blade while raising arm back alongside body, ending with arm parallel to floor. Hold for 2 seconds. Slowly return to start position.

start 6a. Prone Horizontal Abduction Make a fist, palm facing bed. Squeeze your shoulder blade while raising arm out to side ending parallel to floor. Hold for 2 seconds. Slowly return to start position. 6b. Alternate Position Start with palm facing forward, thumb out. Repeat as above.

7. Prone Scaption Make a fist, palm facing bed. Squeeze your shoulder blade while raising arm toward corner ending parallel to floor. Hold for 2 seconds. Slowly return to start position.

8. Prone Abduction with External Rotation Make a fist, palm facing backward. Squeeze your shoulder blade while raising elbow to level of shoulder. Rotate your shoulder until forearm is parallel to floor. Hold for 2 seconds. Slowly return to start position.
