    Titles of respect, adjectives, quotation marks, dictation

    *Follow along with your teacher on the white board. Write the abbreviations for
    each title of respect.
    Mistress _________________________________: married woman.
    Mister ___________________________________: title for a man.
    Doctor ___________________________________: title for a physician.

    Miss is an unmarried woman or girl. It is not an abbreviation so it will not need a


    period after it. __________________________
    Ms. is used when you are unsure if a woman is married. This is an abbreviation
    for Miss and Mistress. _____________________

    Direct quotations are the exact words that someone says. We use quotation
    marks around the words like this I saw a bat! said Tom.
    An indirect quotation does not use quotation marks because they are not
    someones exact words.
    Follow along with your teacher in lesson 42 to see examples of a direct quotation
    and an indirect quotation.
    Look in your childs reader for the week and read (or have him/her read) some
    indirect quotations and direct quotations. Use this for copywork or do the
    dictation practice on page 95 of lesson 42.
