The term "database" is used to label a wide variety of literature research tools including periodical indexes and abstracts, online encyclopedias, online directories and online article databases. The vast majority of the resources labeled "databases" are periodical indexes. Periodical indexes enable you to find out which articles on your topic exist in journals, conference proceedings and magazines. A search on a periodical index results in citations to articles. You then need to search our catalog, IBISWEB, to see if we carry the journal sought in a specific citation. If we do carry the journal, write down the Call Number and location of the journal in the library (Richter 1st Floor, Richter Stacks, etc.), beside the citation. To retrieve the journal article, locate the journal by Call Number and retrieve the correct volume and issue number. If Richter Library does not carry the journal sought, it can be requested through Inter-Library Loan. A small percentage of the library's journal holdings are available online. Not only can you search for articles on your topic but you can retrieve the full-text article online, from your desktop. You can then read or print the article. These databases are referred to as "fulltext" databases. Databases that provide article citations only are referred to as "Periodical Indexes and Abstracts". The following list of databases is accessible from the librarys web site at:
