The top 10

Jacob Zuma
As the head of the ANC, he is the natural choice of the branches for the top spot in the party list. The partys policy says he should preferably be its presidential candidate. The scandals that have dogged his presidency have no impact on his nomination

Cyril Ramaphosa
He is currently the deputy president of the ANC and a successful businessman. The Zuma camp co-opted him as it became clear that Kgalema Motlanthe had his own presidential ambitions. He appeals mainly to the middle class and business

Malusi Gigaba

Naledi Pandor

Fikile Mbalula
The former ANCYL leaders position in the list came as a surprise as he is the only man who has opposed Zuma in the top 30. His nomination by branches suggests that he is still popular with the grass roots despite losing the contest for the position of ANC secretary-general

Blade Nzimande
The leader of the SA Communist Party is known for being a die-hard Zuma supporter. He hardly contradicts anything Zuma does or says. He infamously suggested that there should be a law against insulting the president. His association with Zuma counts in his favour

Bathabile Dlamini
Dlamini, who heads the social development department, is one of the most effective ministers in the Cabinet. She has also been at the forefront of the partys campaigns in communities, sometimes blurring the ne line that separates state and party

Lindiwe Sisulu
Like Radebe, she is seen as a national leader in her own right. Her appeal across the provinces explains why she ranks highly

Collins Chabane
