he Dutch Gable House is situated in 14 William Street, Greenock, 5 minutes walk from Greenock Central Station. If you are in the town square, and can see the Town Hall, Kirk clock and beautiful wrought iron fountain..you are practically there. William Street runs down towards the river from the fountain. It is included on the Greenock Town Trail. We are open 9 - 5 Tuesday through Saturday. he ground floor or The Dutch Gable House is home to the study of local archivist and adventurer Sir Glen Douglas Rhodes, and his varied collection of local social and...esoteric heritage and folklore. On the ground floor you will also find our Secret Cinema, showing locally

made documentaries and films and serials of local interest. We also have our shop, Newark Products, offering hand finished local goods. The middle floor of the gable has a rolling programme of exhibitions and sessions delivered by community organisations. Some of these focus on the areas local and social history, others on areas of community interest such as volunteering. We are happy to host exhibitions from local artists. The middle floor also hosts a Robert Burns exhibition featuring items from the archive of The Greenock Burns Club, the Mother Club Our Reading Room allows for local volunteers and groups to research local heritage and will soon also be running geneaology training sessions.

Some of our exhibitions will focus on historic facts and characters, others on the myths and legends of the area, some on people living and working in our community today. he Back House is, as far as we know, the oldest house in Greenock, dating from 1751 making it four years older than the Dutch Gable House itself. The Back House will be the focus of our next stage of restoration and refurbishment, but for right now, people are welcome to have a wee look inside and we occasionally have a bit of music and storytelling in there. People have also booked it for events as diverse as parties and ghost hunts.

here are loads and loads of opportunities to get involved, from helping us explore the history of the Dutch Gable House and William Street to attending storytelling training, craft evenings or art workshops. Up to date events details are posted on our blog and via our app.

Our volunteer research groups meet on Tuesday and Thursday mornings on the middle floor from 10 12. All are welcome.

Every two months we also play host to the Violet Skulls Market, giving local crafters and traders the chance to showcase and sell their goods.
