A COOL COUNCIL
BY THOMAS BEASLEY-EADES
School council is a council for kids and we have a new one every year at Bickerton. This year, there are nine special kids who play a part in the council. They have a talk with Mrs B about how to improve school or what is good about school. Sometimes they organise fun events, like last years Cookie Day and Wacky Hair Day. To be voted on the council, you have to say a speech in front of your class in September and hope you get voted on! This year, the school council members are Class 2: Casper Armstrong and Molly Fowles Class 3: Molly Tudor and Jakob Diamond Class 4: Thomas Beasley-Eades and Lily Gorman Class 5: Anna Davies, Ewan Weetch and William LithgowSmith So remember to go and tell them all your ideas about our school!
We asked some people for their opinions about the new markings. Sasha told us When we are not on the field, it can sometimes get a bit boring on the playground, so we are very glad now we have our markings. Its made it a lot more fun and we can make up our own

CRACKING CHRISTINGLES
This year, we had our Christingle service once again at Bickerton Church. Class 5 made all the Christingles. These are some of the songs we sung: Silent Night, Candle in the Window, Walk in the Light and Hope of Heaven. We took a risk giving the candles to the little ones but the church is fortunately still standing! It was a fun and exciting night! It was the best!!
Bickerton went bananas for a day when every class got a box of bananas from Cholmondeley! We got the bananas from Tough Mudders, an event at Cholmondeley Castle. They had left-overs so they gave them to us! Everyone took 1 or 2 bunches, but Lauren Turnbull ended up with about 5 bunches. Her mum told her to get more! Ha Ha Ha! Issie said I thought it was very funny having so many bananas in school. Well there we go, well all remember the day Bickerton went bananas!

We sketched part of the castle and then we met our guide, Sabine. She met us at the ticket office and we learnt all about the history of Beeston Castle We asked Mrs Chesworth and Mrs Eccles for their thoughts
about Beeston. It was great fun to take Class 4 on such an exciting trip! they said. The view was amazing and we could see eight different counties from the top! We learnt lots about Beeston. Mrs Chesworth added I found about that the medieval toilet was called a garderobe! Thanks Mrs C and Mrs E for taking us!
Miss Clay has been teaching us to play the recorder and other instruments like the saxophone and the clarinet and after all their hard work, the children put on a wonderful concert when they all played their own instruments. The audience loved the concert and everyone played really well! And they cant wait to do another one! Thank you Miss Clay! (I was very impressed and cant believe how much the children have learnt in a short time! Its not easy to learn an instrument and perform with it. WELL DONE ALL! Editor)

AMAZING ALAN
BY ISSIE HARMAN Bickerton has had a very special visit from our School Laureate, successful childrens author Alan Durant. On Alans visit to Bickerton School in November, the theme was the London 2012 Olympics! All classes got a good chance to work with Alan. He spent two days in school and visited each classroom with a different surprise! He was very kind and we all welcomed him into the school. He had travelled from Brighton, so we were very happy to have him at Bickerton. At Friday sharing assembly, some classes shared their Olympic writing. Some people did poems and some did stories. Everyone was very excited with him coming to the school because he is very special to us. Everyone said a lovely goodbye and a thank you for coming! (A special thank you to Mr and Mrs Machlachlan (Thomas in Class 1s mum and dad) who lent us Olympic flags, mascots, photos and video clips to help inspire us. Also thanks to the PTA for funding this project! Watch out for the upcoming book containing all the finished Olympics writing from across the school! - Editor)

BRILLIANT BOXES
BY SASHA PRICE & SOPHIE FURNIVAL
Once again we have been doing the Operation Christmas Child shoebox appeal for the poorest of children in the world. Its a lovely thing to do, you get a shoebox and fill it with small gifts for a child. We have successfully managed a massive amount and the grand total of shoe boxes is .. 85 !!! Mr Sweetnam has been swamped with shoe-boxes all in front of his office window! I bet he is glad to
be free of all those shoeboxes! All of Class 5 helped gather the shoeboxes for the man to take away. Some people couldnt even reach to get the top shoeboxes as the pile was so high!! We hope all the children will have their wonderful gifts at Christmas and they will know we were thinking of them. Thank you to everyone who helped!

FANTASTIC FARMS
BY ANNA DAVIES
Class 5 havent smelt the nicest lately but we all know whyits because of their FANTASTIC FARM VISITS! Class 5 have been using the Cholmondeley minibus a lot this term because they had been invited to go and look round some local farms, like Bournes of Bickerton, Egerton farm and Duckington Grange. They didnt just go for a look at some cows and potatoes, they went because their topic is Local Lives and they were preparing for a night of festive fun called Come dine with us The farms we were going to were donating potatoes (Duckington Grange) and beef (Bournes of Bickerton) so they wanted to know where our local food comes from. At Bournes of Bickerton, they went round and looked at lots of cow and ate cow food and milk powder! They even got Mrs. Tedham in a cattle crush! At Egerton farm, they learnt how milk got from the cow to the bottle. At Duckington, they saw how the potatoes got sorted and even got to stand next to a combine harvester! We caught up with Becky, one of the pupils that went. It was outstanding and I really enjoyed it! They all enjoyed it and hopefully the smell will wear off!

FESTIVE FEAST
BY ROSS THOMASSON, DANIEL JONES & ISAAC DAKIN On Tuesday 4th December, Class 5 pupils from Bickerton Primary School made a fantastic feast in the school hall for all of their parents and teachers. After looking at local farms and businesses they created a menu to show off the amazing produce on their doorstep. Cracking Class 5 had thought of everything, transforming their boring school hall into a wonderful winter wonderland, with fun napkins and origami boxes with a hidden treat inside. They even made their own classic Christmas candles with the very talented Mrs Blake, creating a festive glow. The super students served up some winter warming mulled wine, packing the classroom full of fun and laughter from their delighted parents. Earlier today we spoke to Mr. Sweetnam and he said The evening was fantastic and the setting was great. The children created a fun and festive atmosphere The talent of these superb students doesnt stop there, calculating ratios and costings, in addition to creating professional luxurious sounding menus. The service was great. You would have thought they were professionals (having been trained by local restaurant A Table at Eatons). To gain inspiration for their menus, the children visited a number of local farms and businesses Their festive menu consisted of a mouth watering three course extravaganza. To start the parents were treated to the creamiest butternut squash soup Then the children presented a succulent steak and ale pie with crispy wedges. To top this delicious dinner the pupils finished with a deluxe chocolate brownie with a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Class 5 really did get 10/10 and everyone was so impressed. Mrs Chapman said I am so proud of Class 5. They worked so hard to create a magical evening. They are superstars!!!

CRICKET SUCCESS
BY GOLDIE MORGAN & LUCY BOURNE Class 5 pupil Issie Harman likes nothing more than to play cricket in her spare time and she is doing really well! She had a brilliant summer season of playing for Northop U9s and being the only girl in the team! Issie then got offered for a place in the North East Wales Under 11 Girls Cricket Development Squad. Being involved in the summer of 2013 girls cricket was amazing for Issie because it includes specialist training and district matches against other girl cricket team. Issies awesome Northop coach also wanted her to play in the North East Wales boys squad as well as playing in the girls squad, but unfortunately, this was not possibly as they do not have mixed squads past the under 9s. Issies cricket ambition is to play for a girls team for Wales! Issie told us I love cricket because I grew up with all my family playing so I wanted to play too! Well done Issie, we are proud of you!
