2.) Whitey says that Jim and Hood's jokes are funny but Jim is a little rough when it comes to telling jokes. Jim and Hood are the jokesters of the town and that most of their jokes involve physical attributes (like a big Adam's apple). A joke that is "played" means that it is used off of the situation that is occurring. These types of jokes typically involve someone's physical appearance. Jim's motivations for these jokes are to make his story more interesting. 3.) Jim Kendall is the town card, who enjoys telling jokes and stories with people he knows or doesnt know. 4.) "Jim Kendall got killed." this got crazy when doc entered town because he is a real doctor and that is a rare case in this town. When Doc went to the barbershop to get a shave he realized that he knew Jim Kendalls friend, Paul, who was a former patient of his. Julie Gregg was a girl that struck the interest of both Jim and the Doc, where Jim wanted her, Doc wanted to cut Jim out of his life entirely because of his ignorance with girls. While Paul was a patient of Doc, he told him that Jim had played a joke on Julie, and when Doc heard about this, he didnt think it was a very funny thing to do to someone and that they shouldnt be alive. Afterwards, Jim and Paul went shooting at a Johns Place where Paul had handled a gun for the first time and accidentally shot Jim because he lost control of the gun, Jim died. This might have been planned because it was boxed in the last paragraph, we see that the situation wouldnt be safe at all because if Doc had been there he may have known of the circumstances and let it happen. 5.) Whitey is an unbiased party who is reliable because he is on neither side of a story, he just tells it as it is. He doesnt mind Jim Kendall, and for the most part he enjoys his jokes regardless of whether or not Doc enjoys them. He is also a good guy who doesnt add to a story, such as a lie, which makes him even more reliable. 6.) the most important character in the story is Whitey because he is the driving force who is telling the story and using his own point of view on the different situations within the events within his larger story and without him, there wouldnt be an unbiased story to tell. 7.) The story is fundamentally about Jim Kendall and his relationship with Julie and the Doc since he and the Doc are both trying to fight over the same girl, and this is a huge conflict within a small town.
