Welcome to Ifugao I am from the province called Ifugao.

It is located within the heart of Cordilleran mountain range, north of the Philippines. It is a province rich in culture and is close to nature similar to Japan. So here are some interesting informations about my homeland, Ifugao. 319km north of Manila, of approximately 8 hour travel via bus, you could reach the province Ifugao. Ifugao is composed of 11 municipalities with Lagawe as the capital. Ifugao is world renowned for its majestic Ifugao Rice Terraces. These are rice paddies craved out on mountain slopes by our ancestors using no mechanical tools and just with bare hands. The most notable of these rice terraces is located north of Lagawe, approximately 1 hour drive, Banaue. This is where most tourists go to witness the majesty of our rice terraces. But the most majestic of them all is the rice terraces in Batad which is looks like an amphitheater. When planted with rice, the terraces are lushes in verdant green. During harvest season, the terraces turn golden. Banaue also showcases a lot of the Ifugao culture. Everywhere, you could see beautiful wood carvings, craft shops and antique shops too. They have bulul or the statue of the Ifugao deity, and many others you could choose from. You could also take pictures with local folks dressed in the native attire. Whats more fun is that they can talk to you in English. Please be warned though that Ifugao men with red lips are not wearing lipsticks. Rather, they are chewing bettlenut which turns their whole mouth red. Aside from the rice terraces, you can also visit the Tapiya Falls which is along the way going to Batad. Taking a swim in the waters takes a brave heart because the water is extremely cold as if it is from newly melted ice especially during the cold season. In my hometown, the capital Lagawe, there are some rice terraces but not as majestic as that in Banaue. Rather, we have caves where you could visit. Lagawe is more of a business district of Ifugao since it is the place where there is the interchange of products from Manila with the local farm products. If you want to learn the history of Ifugao, you also visit Kiangan. Kiangan houses the Ifugao National museum with its collection of Ifugao artifacts, including human bones, ancient gongs, spears, statues of the Ifugao deity; the bulul, earings, rings and many more. Kiangan is also houses the Ifugao Shrine that symbolizes the capture of the famous Japanese General Tomoyuki Yamashita. It is in Kiangan where Japanese forces formally surrendered. These are only some of the interesting places you could visit in Ifugao. There are many others that I havent mentioned yet. So if you want to visit, accommodation is not a problem, we have many boarding houses, lodges and a hotel that you could choose from including those within our budget. Transportation is also not a problem since there are a lot of tricycles and jeepneys. My people, hospitable as we are, they will surely and happily accommodate your queries. Rest assured that they can speak Filipino and English. So, I invite you to come and visit my beautiful home, the land of the majestic rice terraces, Ifugao.
