Information Technology - IT is a general field dealing with managing and processing information using computer-based systems.

It utilizes existing operating systems, software and applications in tandem to create a larger system that solves a specific business problem. IT constructs a network from established building blocks to carry out a task, such as an automated supplies ordering service. Due to the nature of the work, IT professionals are more likely to interact with clients and coworkers outside of their department. They may help explain to a client how to solve technology problems or work with executives and business owners to construct a technology plan that will meet their business needs. Computer Science This is focused with the theory of computational applications, that is, the reasons behind computer programs. It uses algorithms and advanced mathematics, it involves manipulating and transferring information. It is concerned with software, operating systems and implementation. Computer scientists study the machine itself and understand how and why various computer processes operate the way they do. Computing - The discipline of computing is the systematic study of algorithmic processes that describe and transform information: their theory, analysis, design, efficiency, implementation, and application. The fundamental question underlying all of computing is, What can be (efficiently) automated? Computer Engineering This basically involves making computer parts work together. It includes the research, design and development of computer equipment like circuit boards, microchips, routers, video cards, etc. It deals with hardware-to-software integration, meaning that they have to design and build processors and hardware to support a given program. Software Engineering Software Engineering specifically means developing software, analysis, design, programming - creating new software, or maintaining/altering existing software. This is very different to a technical role. The skill set is quite different, technical support guys are not necessarily programmers and (contrary to a lot of non-IT peoples' belief structures) software engineers are not necessarily any good at technical support. It basically encompasses the design and evolution of software, often with an interface to computer hardware, the development of verifiable software to accepted standards of quality and performance. Both the Software Engineering and Computer Engineering program focus on engineering design: Applying science and technology for the production of products within economic and other constraints.

Information Systems Information system (IS) is the study of complementary networks of hardware and software that people and organizations use to collect, filter, process, create, and distribute data. An information system can be defined as set of coordinated network of components, which act together towards producing, distributing and or processing information. An important characteristic of computer-based information systems information is precision, which may not apply to other types. In any given organization information system can be classified based on the usage of the information. Therefore, information systems in business can be divided into operations support system and management support system.

Regardless of which alternative you choose (apart for Information Systems), you will learn about: - The basics of programming, software design, and data structures. - The basics of computer hardware and software engineering. - The mathematics central to computing: logic and discrete mathematics
