Spanish Immersion Meeting May 17th, 2013 Present: Winston Tucker, Sean Fleming, Andrea Dickinson, Dan Bettino,

Sarah Schmidt de Carranza, Abby Felberston Agenda Priority of Amity: Boe: mentioned the possibility of using the money for an amity for Spanish department enrichment activity. Dr T: The budget right now is so tight we dont even have the budget for one. Bettino: IF money comes through, the SpIm SS person that is coming will really need one. Fleming: There is maybe a chance that this could be centrally funded, but is up in the air. Spanish Positions: Dr. Tucker: Sr. Logan will be full time, there is also a new Spanish teacher, Sr. Jacinto Urbino from Puerto Rico. Boe: Who will teach what? 25 sections of Spanish? What will be happening? Tucker: Kara is working on the master schedule; the expansion of the immersion program will also cut into these sections. Boe: Did a test for the possible acceptance of a student for the Spanish immersion program for next year. Student will be accepted, although she has room to improve. Website: The Spanish immersion program must be a rolling agenda. Immersion page should be created, there should be info regarding the program as well as the staff that teaches it. Translation of website/ and a En Espaol option, as well as the opportunity to put things in other languages. Schmidt de C will connect with SpIm teachers to get an idea of the sorts of info that they would like to see on this page. Flemingstandard terms and definitions? On it. SdC will make a rough draft in English. Later, we will have it translated in Spanish. This will count for admin hours. Physical Plant and Signage: Spanish IB signage Possibility of Spanish immersion rooms nearby to each other? There is a wing, just not enough feathers. Bulletin Boards in Hallways for World Language. Collab with Jr. High Bettino has volunteered to liaise with the Sr. high next year. There is also room for 8th grade. ELL/SpIm Cross Service Developing Immersion course descriptions SdC will begin this. We will need a description for SpIm Lang Arts 9, 10, 11, and 12. 6-10th grade grammar needs to be articulated. The Spanish World Language classes have more grammar than SpIm. Human Geo 10 and World Hist 9 have course descriptions in English. Curriculum writing/mapping to accompany course descriptions Summer paid curriculum writing time. Can the District pay for this? Boe and Bettino are willing to do this. Sahli and Logan?? Teachers must be decided. Dates need to be locked in. Once the frames are developed, we can work with the middle school more collaboratively. Grammar articulation. What is LA? What is WL?
