DOMAIN 2: THE CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT


2a: Creating an Environment of Respect and Rapport The 2nd grade classes rotated amongst each other and each teacher taught a certain content area. The students in each class were grouped to ability and levels of where the students are at. Each group had different interactions in the classroom. The yellow group that I was with demonstrated immaturity for the grade level. There were a few students who didn t respect others learning by not paying attention! tal"ing! and playing around. Element: #tudent Interaction 2b: Establishing a Culture for Learning The group that I was assigned to! the students didn t have high e$pectations for learning. The teacher did split these groups in groups at the student s level and wor"ed with them with what they struggled with! but most of the students played around! %ust wrote things down %ust to be done with the assignment. There wasn t much e$citement in these students for them to learn. Element: #tudent Pride in &or" 2c: Managing Classroom Procedures There weren t really any routines that these students were used to. They would come in and be in a commotion of playing around or tal"ing. It wouldn t be until the teacher would get after them to settle down and then get out their te$t boo"s! or whatever the teacher wanted them to get out. 'y this behavior! the teacher lost a lot of time trying to get the class settled down. Element: (anagement of Transitions 2d: Managing Student Behavior 'y the way the teacher made some comments about some students) there was a certain group that the teacher didn t have high e$pectations for the student s behavior. The teacher made

comments on bad home life! which a student s home life affects! the student s behavior. -owever! the teacher let the behavior of the students not paying attention! tal"ing! disturbing the class continues on and not doing anything to stop this behavior. Element: E$pectation

2e: Organi ing Ph!sical Space The classroom isn t that big and there are .uite a few des"s into the classroom. The teacher organi/es the des"s and furniture the best that can be done with the space that has been provided for these students. The areas could be cleaned up and better organi/ed! but as for safety issues there isn t any. It is %ust that the teacher could find what is needed easier if it were better organi/ed.
