Exploration of the need and evaluation

As a designer, I Victoria Touma will be creating a piece of Jewellery for young teenage girls in the age group of 15-18 year olds so they can express their welfare. Personality is a significant factor to think about while producing Jewellery. If you were to wear a piece of Jewellery that does not suit or mix with your personality appropriately it will not best fit who you are as a person and your individual fashion statements. They love going to many different parties because thats what that particular age group enjoys. They are girly and prefer bright, attractive primary colours.

I have conducted a survey to gather results referring to different opinions and ideas that kids may have on Jewellery making. 36% of girls between the ages of 12-15 appreciate wearing either bracelets or headpieces. To complete the course it will take most people no longer 2-6 weeks. Students prefer wearing silver Jewellery that represents something, for example, their religion or their hobbies. According to the results 5 out of 9 people highly recommend that I ensure the jewellery is durable.

Research and evaluation of existing designs

The following collage is made up of a variety of pictures that I have found would inspire me while Im designing my final jewellery piece. I have chosen these pictures in particular because they are appealing, suit my needs and are inspirations as to what I want my final design to look like.

I will base my design on items 2 and 4 as I personally believe these deigns have the potential to give me the results needed and fit my exploration of the need. They not only fit the needs but stand out, are colourful and have unique textures.

I have chosen this bracelet design because it is a lovely, interesting, unique design. I feel I can relate it back to a young teenager wearing it. It has meaning and can define a teenagers personality. I also liked it because if shows the two different colours of blue and purple. It uses techniques such as style, texture and shapes.

Dinosaurs designs work very much as a team and spend time working together. All their work is the result of collaboration and they are more than happy to borrow and exchange ideas without letting jealousy or ego get in the way. They begin by making a prototype out of plasticine. Next they make a latex mould, casting in resin. They then mix the colours into clear resin for each piece. Piece is drilled, sanded and finished by hand. In similarity they both have a set plan that they dont ignore. Angelo kotsis is a product designer. Designers do this to ensure customers are wearing their favourite Jewellery designs and are satisfied. This means that they pay attention and are aware of the different designs and expectations. Hand felt is related to how something feels in the hand. The designers talk about how their pieces of jewellery are very well hand-felt. Section 6 Mixed material technologies 1. If you were to design a small pendant how could it be mass produced? Research the different ways in which you could produce multiple copies of this object. There are many ways to mass-produce a pendant, although the most common way is using a 3D printer. This will enable you to design a pendant using google Sketch Up or another program that will allow you to print the object. Another way a small pendant can be mass produced is if you set up a work space for efficiency and volume production. Youll need adequate space to store large quantities of the raw materials youll be using for your production runs. Depending on the pieces youre wholesaling, you may need multiples of some of your tools and supplies, such as bead boards, for creating several copies of the design at once. 2. For the small pendant research how it can be finished. How does it affect the visual appeal of the object? Once the charm has been created the designers could add some final touch ups in order for it to be finished, some of these include: painting, coating, beading, wiring etc. The pendant went from looking uncompleted and cheap to something aesthetical and high class. 3. Research other products made from polyester resin, e.g. bathroom vanities, bathtubs, canoes, surfboards. Compare the characteristics of these products with the characteristics of Dinosaur Designs' products. The Fiberglass tub is made of layers of surface coat, polyester resin, with fiberglass support. These types of tubs are less expensive than acrylic but also less resilient and dont last very long. A good thing is that they are very easy to maintain and clean. Dinosaur Designers have worked with chemists who have assisted them to develop this specific type of resin. As it has the characteristics of being stronger and can deal with more impact.
