Royal Kingdom

Samuel - last judge and first prophet - Sams mom is sterile, but God gives her a son - Hannah praises God in the Song of Hannah - Samuel is taken to Shiloh (ark is here) and Eli cares for Sam (cares for the ark) - Samuels Call: Sam heres his name 3x - responds saying Speak Lord for your servant is listening then he is blessed by God Ark ya! - The Philistines have the ark - Israelites are losing to the Philistines - Philistines take the ark bc the Israelites use the ark like a mascot - Eli dies at age 98 after hearing the news - Samuel becomes a Prophet (mouthpiece of God) King?? - people want a king to govern us like all the nations - God warns the people that they should not have a king - Sam gets tribes together and chooses Saul (big, strong + hot) to unify all the tribes into one kingdom - Israel has king but he is subject to God and an instrument of Gods power Saul :// - Saul misses the mark: he fails to listen to Samuel, guard the covenant, and keep the people loyal New King!! - Samuel goes to Bethlehem to get a new king (David; a plain shepherd) - David will become Israel's greatest king - David: anointed king Saul: acting king Goliath of Gath - Philistines invade and Goliath (mad tall 65 and strong) challenges any Israelite to fight him (1 v. 1) - David says he will: does not take armor: simply kills Goliath by throwing a rock at his head: then he cuts his head off - David becomes a national hero and is put in charge of the armies - Davids BFF is Jonathan (saul's son) Saul >:O - saul becomes so jealous of David - he wants to kill him but David finds out and becomes a fugitive - David has opportunity to kill Saul but he cant bc he was appointed by God - Saul's two sons are killed and then he kills himself and David mourns him King David - becomes king! after Saul's death - David conquers Jerusalem and makes it the royal city ((City of David {Zion})) - moves the ark to Jerusalem

Messiah will come from his line Davids greatest sin is adultery David tries to break up Bathsheba and Uriah by getting Uriah killed in battle David then marries Bathsheba (shes pregnant) and their baby will not survive David repents but theres still consequences - the baby dies David writes over half of the psalms - Thanksgiving (thanking God), Repentance (sorrow for our sin), Adoration (love God), Petition (show faith in Abba [asking]) King Solomon - appointed king who asks for wisdom** rather than power and wealth - Test of the Mothers when two ladys have a baby and one mother accidentally kills her baby and takes the other one saying its hers and Solomon says hell cut the baby in half and give one side to each lady and the real mom says no just don't kill my baby give it to her and that shows who the real mom is - Queen of Sheba is astonished @ his wisdom - builds first temple - he accumulates wealth and wives which leads to the darkest time in Israelis history

Beatitudes - attitudes of being Beatitudes are guidelines on how Jesus wants us to live 1. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven - those who need to know more, pray more, and practice religion more 2. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted - respond and show kindness, do not run away 3. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth - the meek are humble people 4. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied - desire to follow Jesus and do what is right 5. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy - forgiveness and kindness 6. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God - pure hearted = single hearted 7. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God - bridge builders v. troublemakers 8. Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven - fair, just and right
