STALLONE ZONE

STALLONE MOVIE MARATHON Hes an actor, writer, director and even a painter - so why hasnt Sylvester Stallone been fully acknowledged as the great American artist that he is? Beneath the sinewy exterior beats a heart so true, none of us should forget that Stallone is much more than an action star. To show our devotion to the man, well have a full day of movies and trailers - all on 35mm - all displaying amazing talent and an earnestness rarely found in Hollywood. Dont ask what were showing - guessing is part of the fun! Every day leading up to Stallone Zone will be like a training montage - chicken chasing, blade-sharpening, country music voice lessons and plenty of jump-roping. Well have a special something to give you, and a Stallone-themed food and drink menu!

BEETLEJUICE (1988, 35mm) Staff pick of Sydney! After Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin) die in a car accident, they find themselves stuck haunting their country residence, unable to leave. When the unbearable Deetzes (Catherine OHara, Jeffrey Jones) and teen daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) buy the home, the Maitlands attempt to scare them away without success. Their efforts attract Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a rambunctious spirit whose help quickly becomes dangerous for the Maitlands and innocent Lydia. BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA (1986) Kurt Russell plays two-fisted trucker Jack Burton: a gambling, beer-chugging schmoe whose macho heroics land him on the supernatural kung fu warrior s~~tlist. The lightning and lazerbeams fly through the streets of San Francisco as Jack and his fellow lowbrow adventurers face off against rampaging maniacs, elemental demigods, mythical beings and even prehistoric subterranean monstrosities! ENCHANTED QUOTE-ALONG (2007) Giselle gets to wear gorgeous gowns and hang out with talking animals, but unlike the other Disney gals, girlfriend keeps it real. Shes feminist, shes funny, and shes so brave, she can even handle cockroaches without screaming. Also, shes smart enough to understand that its better to get dresses from a shopping montage than mice tailors, and that Patrick Dempsey is way hotter than James Marsden. INVESTIGATION OF A CITIZEN ABOVE SUSPICION (1970) Against a backdrop of intense political unrest in 1970s Italy, a Roman police inspector plays out a Kafkaesque tale as he investigates a brutal murder - one which he himself committed. The provocative filmmaker Elio Petri maintains an uneasy balance between absurdity, genre thrills and terrifying realism in this unsettling, visceral, Oscar-winning thriller. This is a film whose central mystery is not Who dunnit? but Why? Yet the chilling answer stares us in the face from the beginning and offers no comfort: The inspector commits murder simply because he can. THE MATRIX (1999) Hong Kong action coupled with groundbreaking, action-filmredefining special effects combine to make one of the coolest action/sci-fi film of all-time. Take the red pill and journey down the rabbit hole to 1999 when special effects were actually used for something and action movies were still awesome. See Neo go from everyday computer hacker to demi-god with the help of Morpheus and Trinity as he awakens to find his reality is nothing like it seems. AFGA Presents: NEON MANIACS (1986, 35mm) A hive of disfigured mutants emerge from beneath the Golden Gate bridge to kill at will. This forgotten film is an incredibly senseless and bizarre excuse for teen slaughter, and thats just fine. No origin or explanation is given for the creatures, each of which is a misshapen variation on a basic theme: a hirsute neanderthal, a gruesome surgeon, a lumbering samurai and even a leather daddy biker beast who chain-drags a mohawked teen behind his cycle when the monsters invade a high school dance.

ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOOS NEST (1975) A career-defining, legendary performance from Jack Nicholson anchors the film heavy emotional core and helps Forman and this character drama hit all the right notes from funny to devastating and everything in between. The film, though, would also not work without Louise Fletcher, whose evil Nurse Ratched makes an audience seethe with anger at the site of her face. Its their beautifully feisty interplay that takes center stage. TRON (1982, 35mm) Co-presented by Hudson River Museum as a part of The Art of Video Games exhibition. When genius computer programmer Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) loses his job after sneaky boss Edward Dillinger (David Warner, evil as usual) passes his work off as his own, Flynn attempts to hack into the system. But Master Control Program haults his efforts by breaking him down into data and trapping him within the game. He seeks out Tron, a heroic security program that he knows can put a stop to MCP. THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939) Routinely referenced on countless lists as one of the greatest things ever put to celluloid, this movie isnt great because it was an achievement for its time--its great because it is a wholly inescapable whirlwind of excellence. Its the movie kids beg to see over and over again and the film adults routinely need to revisit just to remind them just how magical a movie can be.

BEN-HUR (1959) Winner of eleven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor (Charlton Heston), this is an epic film in every sense of the word. Upon its release, The New York Times called it, by far the most stirring and respectable of the Bible-fiction pictures ever made. Experience this classic cinematic masterpiece in its full splendor with this glorious 8K digital restoration. GODZILLA: THE JAPANESE ORIGINAL (1954) Godzilla may have become best known for participating in silly, cheap monster mashes, but the original 1954 movie - known as GOJIRA in Japan - is a cinema classic for a damn good reason. This movie doesnt just have giant monster action, its also a sobering and honestly scary warning about the danger of nuclear weapons... made by people who know the truth all too well. Broadway Brunch: MY FAIR LADY (1964) Winner of eight Academy Awards, MY FAIR LADY stars the incandescent Audrey Hepburn as Eliza Doolittle and the debonair Rex Harrison as Henry Higgins, the professor who tries to teach her to speak like a lady. Join us for an early afternoon of delightful songs, tasty brunch food and a little rain in Spain. Even if you danced all night, we guarantee that Broadway Brunch will leave you feeling absolutely loverly. Video Vortex: GOREMET ZOMBIE CHEF FROM HELL (1986) The year is 1386. A group of wizards called The Ancient Order place a curse on a guy named Goza. Cut to 1986. Goza is now the proprietor of Gozas Deli & Beach Club, which is a front for chopping off peoples body parts and eating them. Goza also enjoys dance parties with nude women. This movie reeks of weed, Doritos, and old Reebok high-tops in the best of ways. It was made by adults on Super 8, but most likely influenced by ninth-graders playing Dungeons & Dragons while watching EVIL DEAD. Plus its only 67 minutes. Cinema Cocktails: DELICATESSEN (1991) A post-apocalyptic, satirical black comedy from the twisted minds of Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet (Amelie) about a former circus clown who finds an ideal living situation above a butcher shop...that is until he finds out how the butcher keeps the residents so well fed. Absurdist, extavagant with broad slapstick and gross out images, early Jeunet can best be compared to a young Terry Gilliam with a double helping of feelings. Delicatessen can crack a smile, turn your stomach and warm your heart. RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD (1985, 35mm) This is an unstoppable splatter-massacre of the highest order, a hyper-adrenalized nuclear shockwave of undead rampaging and mohawked raaaaaage! When punk teen Fred accidentally unleashes a toxic corpse-cloud, the world quickly falls victim to a scourge of shambling, talking, unmurderable cadavers. Featuring the most memorable teen performances youll ever see in a horror movie, the smartest zombies to ever nosh a brainpan, and a truly unforgettable punk n metal soundtrack from The Cramps, 45 Grave and more!

Kids Camp: MOUSEHUNT (1997) After the death of their father, bumbling brothers Ernie (Nathan Lane) and Lars (Lee Evans) Smuntz move into his old mansion with plans to restore it and sell it for a pretty penny. The only problem? Theres a very clever mouse already in residence, and hes determined not to budge. A critter version of Home Alone, this high-energy comedy is packed with pratfalls, pranks and wacky mouse-induced disasters. LET ME OUT (2012) Mu-Young is a film student whos seen every movie you havent and thinks your favorite director is a hack. Hes happy to churn out criticism until a famous indie filmmaker funds his unproduced zombie masterpiece and gives him a chance to prove hes the next big thing in Korean cinema. On the set, melodrama quickly bleeds out of the script and into the shoot. Mu-Youngs undead are underwhelming, the stars a total diva, and the cast and crew are one step away from mutiny. If hes not careful, chasing after his dream could turn life into a total nightmare.
