Observation Prison Break Jeff Walker

Note: For the first episode of the first season of Prison Break set the tone and the information we
would need for the show. The specific episode takes place in Chicago and a prison about 500 miles
south of Chicago. It takes place over a time period of about two or three days. You will notice the time
stamps I have placed are only estimates of when I think those events are happening each day.

Location: The season starts out with the younger brother Michael Scofield (Wentworth Miller) in a
tattoo parlor getting a full upper body tattoo. The next scene is a bank in Chicago that is attempted to
be robbed by Michael. After going to court and sent to Fox River Penitentiary In southern Illinois. Most
of the interactions for the entire of show take place in either the jail cell or the field the inmates are
allowed to use for recreation time.
Actors:
Michael Scofield: Played by Wentworth Miller the younger brother that is whiling to throw away his
whole life to help his innocent brother who is on death row. A young structure engineer that is
considered a pure genius finds a way to get himself admitted into the same prion as his brother and
then escapes. After hearing his brother tell him he did not do the crime he is being prosecuted, he takes
it upon himself to break him out of the prison that his company help remodel a few years earlier.
Lincoln Burrows: Dominic Purcell is the man framed for killing the vice presidents brother. He is an a
man cares a reputation for fighting and ability to physically beat other people as he fought his way out
of tough situations his whole life. With the nick name link the sink it will carry the reputation of being
a true bully.
Fernando Sucre: Amaury Nolasco is Scofields cell mate and somebody that Michael will trust and
become friends with. A man with just 16 months left on his sentence for robbing a local gas station he is
forced to helping his cell mate in escaping because his fianc is pregnant that is threatening to leave him
for a better life. He becomes Michaels best friend and someone that will have his back when others
dont.
Dr. Sarah Tancredi: Sarah Callies is the Doctor that works at the prison. She is also the governor of
Illinois daughter. She meets with Michael every week for what appears to be just a regular checkup for
his diabetes (which turns out to be faked) when its really just a way for him to get a lay out for his
escape route.

Michaels full body tattoo is really a way for him to slip the blue prints into prison without
tipping off the guards of how to escape. Without this he would forget his plans and all the things
he needs to escape and disappear which would make the task that much harder.
The insulin shots Michael receives are a way for him to get in with the doctor that will later turn
into a love story. So every day he is able to work on his escape that can only work if he goes
through the infirmary.

Discourse Communities:
Inmates: The prison is just like any other prison these days that is overcrowded and has the
problems you would think they would face today. Racial issues and power issues are all over the
yard and cell blocks. It turns out that the most of the inmates blackmail their way into the
escape.
Guards: You learn very quickly that the correctional officers are dirty just as much as the
criminals they keep locked up. They still from the inmates and cheat and use them like their own
personal servants.
Observations:
Day 1: At the beginning of the episode Michael attempts to rob bank in Chicago which is a set up to get
him into Fox River with his brother.
Day 2: Pleads guilty and asks to be incarcerated in Fox River with his brother.
Day 3: Gets moved to his new cell in Fox River and meets with the people he needs to help him escape
and disappear.
Day 4: Due to how his brother is being kept he only can meet him at service on Sundays to talk.

Note: This observation is for the 6th episode of the first season. It takes place mainly at Fox River with
flashes into the outside world with Lincolns Attorney. Over the span of 2 days a riot breaks out and
moves were made to help their escape the riot was planned so more time would be available for them
to work on the route out. I will be using the old actors description and the discourse communities
from the first observation to cover the actors that have already presented themselves.

Location: The second episode of the season brings a second wave of how the story is presented by
Lincolns attorney and ex-girlfriend trying to find a way to prove that he is innocent. While Fox River is
the main setting, the city of Chicago is used and seen for the lawyers and all outside life. With multiple
scenes at each location the prison and the city become the two major venues.

Theodore t-bag Bagwell- Robert Knepper Is an inmate that no one really likes and is in prison for
rapping and killing many kids. He finds out about the escape plan and then blackmails the group into
letting in on the escape with them or hell snitch
Brad Bellick-Wade Williams is the caption of the correctional officers. He runs the front line of the
prison. Also known as boss he is very much a criminal himself with the way he handles his job and the
inmates and how he steals and uses his powers to get what he wants.
Paul Kellerman- Paul Adelstein a secret service agent that is so secret he is not even on the employment
records. He does the dirty work for the people higher up in the chain to get rid of the people that know
about the burrows case.
LJ Burrows-Marshall Allman acts as the son of Lincoln that has had a lot of problems with his life because
of his relationship with his father. He blames him for everything that happened to him and his mother.
He will become a teenager with a record with many different felonies and runs into trouble with the law
his whole life.
Warden Pope-Stacy Keach is a friend of Michaels and is a good guy that looks after the inmates but does
right by the book. He tends to be far to everyone and is someone that runs the prison very well.
John Abruzzi-Peter Stormare a New York head Mafia man that is in waiting for his trail. He is in need of
information of the where bouts of the man that will testify against him that will put him and his friends
away for life. Michael knows where he can find the informant and will exchange it for Johns travel plans
to get him out of the country.
Veronica Donovan-Robin Tunney is representing Lincoln in his case to find out the truth and get him off
death row for a crime he was framed for. She goes to the end of the earth to find out the truth and is
being scared off by the government even though her past relationship with Lincoln keeps her going.
Charles Westmoreland-Muse Watson is an older man that Michael needs to get on board with the
escape because in his past has run into a lot of money. He is a in for grand theft auto after stealing a lot
of money 30 years ago but does not admit to being the one with all the money. After many tries and bad
news about his sick family he then decides to get on board and escape.

Artifacts:
This episode we finally see Sarah and Michael start to have feelings for each other. You can
already tell that the relationship will become a problem and forces Michael to try his hand and
see what will come out of the friendship.

Michael needs a distraction to work on the escape for a long period of time and comes up with a
way to start a riot. The air condition unit is a way to get the inmates on edge and get them to
fight back with the guards and make the guards with draw from the prison.
Observations:
Day 1 @ night: Michael tries to start digging through a wall to get him into the pipes under the prison.
Day 2 @ morning: after he realizes he needs more time to work on the escape he cuts off the air to get
the inmates irritated at the guards.
Day 2 @ noon: after it gets really warm the inmates stand up for them and fight the guards and each
other. Michael starts his drilling into the wall to get him into the tunnel that will lead his way out. Dr.
Tancredi is then forced into her office and barricaded and has to fight her way to survive. The show ends
in Sarah being scared and forced to defend for her life.

episode of the first season that is a continued episode
from the riot. I will add new actors onto the old descriptions and also keep the discourse communities.
This episode finishes up the riot and how the inmates go through what happened.

Governor Tancredi-John Heard is Dr. Tancredis father that shows up to the prison unexpectedly to see if
she is all right because he has not heard from her due to the riot. He is a good man but does not support
her and turns out to be someone that cant be trusted later on since the government has gotten to him
and offers him a deal for him to join them.
Artifacts:
In prison just about anything that could be sharpened or used as a weapon was used. From a
bolt to a kitchen knife and everything in between was used as a weapon or sharpened into a
blade. Batteries in socks were something each inmate could get their hands on. Wither it was for
protection or to send a message in the riot.
The egg beater that Michael stole from the kitchen was used to drill holes in the wall that will be
their way into the tunnels for the escape.
The air ducts that Michael used to get to Sarah and help her escape from the inmates turns into
a way for her to find out something iss going on.


Observations:
Day 2 @afternoon: Governor Tancredi shows up with the national guard at the prison and forces his
hand to step in after finding out the mess theyre in. Once Michael saw Sarah being harassed and
fighting for her life he then rushes to help her. He uses the crawl space in the ceiling to get her and help
find her way out. The episode ends with the completion of the tunnel that Michael started and Sarah
getting to safety.
