Lahore Debating Gala 2014



T E R M S & C O N D I T I O N S

E L I G I B I L I T Y
I. Participants must be current students of the institute they represent.
II. Participants must be affiliated with their respective institutes Debating Societies.

P A R T I C I P A T I O N
Participation is subject to the approval of the Principal/Dean of the respective institutes.

I. For Parliamentary Debates:
Each team should comprise of 3 speakers (compulsory) and 2 resources (optional).
Teams will be accommodated on the first come, first serve basis.
Adjudicators should be brought according to n-n rule.

II. For Declamation:
The final list of participant(s) along with their chosen topics and modes of debate must be
provided to the FMHC Debating Society latest by the 20
th
of May 2014, following which no
modification can take place without informing the FMHC Debating Society.

N.B. It is not necessary for institutes to compete in both Parliamentary and Declamation; they
may compete in either one.

R U L E S
I. For Parliamentary debates, the rules have been adapted from the International Asian
guidelines; refer to Appendix A.
II. For Declamation, refer to Appendix B.

C O D E O F C O N D U C T
I. All participants are expected to abide by the rules of FMH College of Medicine and
Dentistry at all times.

II. During the event, all participants are considered representatives of their respective
institutions and are expected to behave in a way that upholds the dignity of the same.

III. Additionally, participants are required to adhere to common norms of decency.
Therefore, at no point will obscenity, lewd behavior or hooliganism be tolerated.

IV. For the duration of their visit, participants are requested to keep in mind Fatima
Memorial Hospital and FMH College are part of an integrated healthcare complex;
refrain from activities that may inconvenience or otherwise discomfort patients and
their attendants.






V. During the competition, participants may not personally attack each other or otherwise
behave in a way contrary to the values of mutual respect, freedom of thought, and
equality.

VI. Those found violating the Code of Conduct may face disciplinary action
leading to disqualification.

J U D G I N G C R I T E R I A

I. Judges will take into consideration the manner, delivery and subject matter
of the speech as well as the quality of the language used.

II. Adherence to the rules and form of the selected style (whether Parliamentary or
Declamation) will be noted.

III. Within the general framework, it is up to the judges to further modify the judging
criteria as they see fit, and/or make allowances should they wish to do so.

IV. Decisions taken by the judges are independent, final and cannot be challenged.

D I S Q U A L I F I C A T I O N
I. Unethical practices, plagiarism, and cheating of any sort will result in immediate
disqualification.

II. Failure to adhere to the Code of Conduct may result in disqualification.

III. In the event of a disqualification, all decisions will be final and no further appeals will
be entertained.


D I S C L A I M E R
The views expressed by any participant are their own and not to be considered representative of
the views of FMHC Debating Society, FMH College or any other parties involved.

L I M I T A T I O N O F L I A B I L I T Y
I. FMHC Debating Society, Fatima Memorial Hospital College, or the Fatima Memorial
System shall not be liable for any of the following losses or damages incurred as a result
of participation (whether such damage or losses were foreseen, foreseeable, known or
otherwise): (a) physical injury; (b) loss of or damage to property; (c) financial loss; (d)
loss of goodwill or injury to reputation; (e) losses suffered by third parties; or (f) any
other indirect, consequential, special or exemplary damages arising from participation
at any stage, or the intention to participate.

II. FMHC Debating Society, Fatima Memorial Hospital, or any other concerned parties
including, but not limited to, the judges are not bound to assign a reason or furnish an
explanation for any decision(s) they may take, including disqualification.




III. Participation in the Lahore Debating Gala 2014 implies acceptance of all terms and
conditions mentioned herein.

IV. Disagreement with the Terms, in part or as a whole, at any point during the event will
be considered tantamount to forfeit.
V. The FMHC Debating Society reserves the right to change the terms and conditions at any
given time without prior notice.
