Memo
To: Dusty Fisher, KFAC Assistant Director
CC Steve Floyd, KFAC Director, Dr. Carolyn Hondo, BHS Principal

From: Janie Hudgens, BHS Drama Instructor, KFAC Employee, and Former KFAC Assistant Director.
REGARDING: Morgan Hunts performance during The Nutcracker rehearsals and Saturday, 11/23
Performance.
This is to inform you of my concerns regarding Morgans lack of professional conduct during the
rehearsals sessions Wednesday and Thursday, 11/20 & 21, and the performance, Saturday, 11/23.
During both rehearsal evenings, Morgan, who was assigned to work the light board, continually
chattered on the head-set to his co-workers. While it cannot be disputed that his-coworkers were as
well engaging in this activity, Morgan is a senior/veteran employee in the KFAC, and has been told head-
set speaking, not relevant to the running of the show, is not acceptable. He has been taught head-set
protocol. I reminded him of this several times during these rehearsals. He would stop for a while, but it
started up again. I also observed Morgan appearing to sleep while at his post, and not respond to
contact attempts from his crew chief.
The second incident occurred backstage during intermission of the Saturday performance. Our main
drape is a bit uneven, and our fly-rail crew member had lowered the drape to just where the lowest part
of the curtain touched the floor, which unfortunately leaves a gap in the center for the stage. Our client
noticed this and asked that the drape be lowered so that the center touched the floor to conceal all
downstage set preparations that take place during intermission. Morgan stormed backstage from his
position at the light booth, went directly to the line-set, and began readjusting the drape, saying loudly
that the drape was piled up on the floor. I stepped in, told him to leave it alone, that it was not his job to
determine if the drape was in the correct position, that the client wanted it lowered and we complied
with the client. Morgan proceeded to argue with me, that it looked bad. I reminded him that his
assignment was lights, not fly-rail, and that he had no place fixing the problem unless he first asked
questions of the person whose assignment it was. While I was not crew chief for this performance, I am
an adult teacher in this organization and feel Morgans behavior was out of line and disrespectful.
Lastly, Morgan left after the performance, without shutting down the board, asking anyone else to shut
down the board, or checking out with his crew chief. While I was told that he had requested and was
granted permission to leave before strike was complete so he could go on his date, I found it unsettling
that he did not inform his chief he was exiting the building, or that, if not shutting down the light system
himself, at least ask/remind someone else to do it for him.
