Primary
Our production team has carried out a focus group with our target audience detailing the
questions and answers to help show our team how much the idea will be a success. The
producer Kieran explained in a minute what the story is about. We asked a total of five
questions and got some brilliant feedback.
1. Do you think we should make any improvements or have any suggestions to make
to our film?
The feedback was very positive for this question one person replied the film is perfect there
are no improvements to make. Other people said that it is a creative idea including the tile
The Good, The Bad and the Unlucky.
2. How can we make our characters more relatable?
With the main character being 22, the people from the focus group suggest relating to a
young audience of 18-19. So the main character would be doing work experience, as the
target audience suggests. However this would make our film plot twisted with the fact that
Sam fowler lends money from a gangster.
3. Do you think we should add comedy to the main character which could be risky or
keep it a moral story?
The Feedback for this question was mixed, half the target audience said adding comedy may
destroy the film and it should be kept to a moral story. However the other half said it would
be funny considering the character is clumsy.
4. For our younger target audience, do you think the ending may be too graphic? If
so, how can we change it?
The target audience really liked the ending one of them said it is the highlight of the
story. One person suggested not showing the fight scene on screen instead shot it
of camera. I agree with this point purely because some of the most memorable films
like American Beauty use off camera editing to show the dramatic impact of the
main characters death.
5. Do you think the locations we are using are suitable for the film?
Many of the people in the focus group where concerned with how we are going to
use these locations. One person suggested doing the fight scene on the collage
grounds to avoid any misunderstanding.
6. Do you like a simple or complex narrative?
The answer to this question was a no brainer; the target audience said that because
it is a short film it has to have a simple narrative. However some people said because
there are open narratives a twists it makes the story complex in a way that engages
the viewer.

Secondary research
To make my film production a success I am carrying out secondary research into a film called
Lottery ticket which has similarities to our film. This film was developed during 2010 and given a
budget of 10,000,000 and received from the box office a total of 25,000,000 which is good
considering the actors, set and pops were low budget. What people liked about this film was that it
was constant comedy, where as our film is more serious as it reaches its climax. However because
the film was comedy it didnt get the attention of viewers round the world, it did make a profit of
15,000,000 worldwide. This information was acquired through internet movie data base.
While looking into a review on this film I can see what this person likes about the storyline, this is a
form of qualitative research. The plot clearly indicates how tremendously inane and predictable this
story is. Regardless, I spent the majority of the screening in a fit of laughter the dialogue is
hysterical and White left no stereotype unmentioned. No, we dont stumble on any Meryl Streeps
in the projects, but I feel obliged to give credit where its due: under the given circumstances of this
foolish story and its equally foolish characters the cast was solid. 99% of this films dialogue is
dreadfully cheesy but these actors perform it well.
This film critic gave the film 5 out of 10, so the film didnt turn out as good. However it mistake was
being too much of a comedy, whereas my film is a crime drama so the genres suit the storyline
better.
