Technical plan

By Nathan Morgan

Day N Night
The son we have chosen to do is Day N Night by Kid Cudi. The reason we chose to make a music video for this song is we can be creative with it, do what we want the narrative is a blank can verse, Also the song is catchy and has a great beat to work with.

Narrative
The music video narrative is about 2 wimpy characters who are best friends who commit crimes like theft and pickpocketing any person they see. One day the two main characters have an argument, they split up there friendship and go their separate ways. One of the characters meet up with a gang member which he knows and gets pulled into the gang, this character is shown as the Bad character. while the other character looks over to some street dancers and decides to join their society. This shows the character is the Good one. The music video will show two different stories as it progress throughout the music video. While the good character is dancing in the Day, the Bad character and the gang are mugging people in the Night. This shows off the theme of the song Day N Night. This also shows binary opposites linking with each over, Good Vs Bad is associated with Day vs Night. The story reaches its climax where the Good character is living his dream, while the Bad character gets shot by his former gang members.

Storyboard in progress
We are in the production of the storyboard, for this we have an Photoshop artist creating the shots that we want for our music video.

These following shots are in my storyboard which is in progress. The two main characters are walking down the path with a medium close, two shot also with a dolly tracking movement. This will then use a dissolve transition (fade) to go to the next shot; the bad character is on the left while the good character is on the right hand side. The next shot is a medium close up of the two main characters pickpocketing a wallet off the man passing by. I used slow motion to show clearly that while the good character is distracting the man, the other character is taking the wallet out of this pocket.

Camera shots, Angles and movement

The Music video will have close up shots to capture the emotions of the characters. This is to make to audience understand how the characters feel throughout the video. This will Engage the audience to continue watching the music video. There will also be establishing shots used within the music video to show, the setting that the characters are set in. For example the Bad character and the Gang will be mugging a person in the alleyway, but first there is an establishing to show the alleyway before the characters are shown. I am also going to be using long shot, two shot, medium shot, long take, close up etc.. We are thinking of using two camera angles eye level and a high angle which shows the character week and powerless. The camera movement I am thinking of using is a tracking, dolly and zooming. For example the two main characters are walking down a path. With the lyric I tried to run but see is used in the medium close up/two shot. As soon as the performer says, Im not that fast it cuts tow a long shot in which I used slow motion and a zoom to show the full setting of the shot.

Lyric interpretation
With the lyric I tried to run but see I'm going to use a medium close up/two shot. As soon as the performer says, Im not that fast it cuts to a long shot in which I used slow motion to show the irony of the clip. This lyric will be interpreted and used to show irony, with the characters walking slow. the bad character will be walking to the gang member, while the lyric plays his on the move cant seem to shake the shade. The character will be nudging fist with the gang member, along with the lyric the life he made showing from that point on his life has been set in stone. Another example is with the lyric his on the move while the actual character is moving. Also with the lyric the lonely stoner I show the main character walking up the steps on his own.

Editing relating to artist

My artist is Kid Cudi. The music video will consists a lot of cross cutting. This is to show 2 different stories throughout the song. This also links in with the narrative story of the music video because we get to see the result of what happens to the both of them at the same time which will engage the audiences. To follow the style of the Kid Cudi, I will be using chrome key for the lip syncing parts in my music video. I will be adding effects and filters to change the style of the original rushes. This music video will mainly contain a narrative, the song shows through the lyrics about how the story ended. The style will have an abstract affects, and transition like zoom and pan, cut to the beat, wipes and dissolve. In watching some of Kid Cudi music videos there is three different editing techniques straight cuts, quick cuts and fade in. also there is a variety of different shot types: Close up, Cut-in, Over the shoulder shot, Medium close up, Long shot. I will make my music video with some of these shots, but mainly with the abstract effects and filters that draw viewers in.

Locations and casting

Locations- The locations we are going to be using is the public footpath outside Christ the kings St Marys on the other side of road. We are also going to be using the shelter area beside the canteen building on the college grounds. We are going to shoot 35% of our film on college grounds, the majority will be shot in the Green room using chrome key. Casting-For the characters we mainly need two actors to star in our music video. We have casted Gary Barnes as the Good character who gives up his life from crime to go into street dancing. To play the role of the Bad character we have decided to cast Werth Nsombo. His character splits up from the Good character to continue his life of crime, he Goes another level when he joins a gang and his fate is set in stone. We have two minor roles, the Gang member who brings Werth into the gang which is played by Richard Fashola. Also we have the street dancer who brought Gary into the street dancing world by showing him a couple of moves, He is being playing by Ikponmwosa Obasuyi. We also have three extras which are Goodness Duru, Ryan Clarke and Kieran Poynter they play very minor roles which help the story flow.
