Ashur was one of the most advanced and important city in Assyria. I t had a lot of
temples like the Temple of Ashur, Golden tablet of Ishtar temple, Temple of anu and
adad and much more. Since Ashur was one of the main cities it had a huge population
and one of the biggest in Assyria. Ashur had good and fresh crops since it was near the
Tigris river. It also has many structures and land filled with different things. The north
Assyrians also enjoyed the ample supply of building stone. The North were also close to
metal and mineral resources of Anatolia. Overall Ashur and the civilization of Assyrians
shows a lot as an advanced city.

There were a lot of specialized workers in cities of assyria like in Ashur or in Nineveh. In
ancient Assyria and Ashur there were big amounts of artisans, merchants, and traders.
Assyrians also had a large and organized groups of horsemen. Soldiers were very
important specialized workers in Assyria. Assyrians were always attacked by the
surrounding places. The Assyrian soldiers also had the best weapons which was made
out of iron. Since Assyrian cities were fertile they had a lot of farmers. They also had a
lot of farmers because of the irrigation there. There were a lot of famous builder who
built famous structures like temples and palaces for the rulers or king will live.


Complex institutions were very important in Assyria since there were so many different
rulers there. The Assyrians were polytheistic. The religion in Assyria was called
Ashurism. A winged genie that carries out the ritual of fertilization of a sacred palm tree
was part of their religion. Later on the region of Assyria changed to Christianity and the
first Christian church was founded in 33 A.D. The cities name Ashur comes from a god
based name called Ashur. One of the king of Assyria was Tiglathpileser III. The well-
known famous kings which is Sargon II was also a ruler but who was suddenly
murdered by a foreigner. A lot of the temples in Assyria are named and based after
famous kings,god and rulers. The palaces and temples in Assyria were decorated with
beautiful reliefs with statues of winged bulls, known as cherubs.

In ancient assyrian civilization record keeping was important. They wrote on clay tablets
and had a library full of clay tablets. They used pictures to represent words which were
called pictograph and overtime it evolved to symbols. Cuneiform was a form of writing
which was created using square ended styles into clay. Assyrians wrote letters enclosed
in clay envelopes to be sent with the postal system. The government recorded financial
things, contract between people and census. Between 4000 B.C 2400 B.C the average
person would record financial things, behavior of kings, dramatic events, and about
people they interacted with.

Assyrians had a lot of inventions of new different technology. The Assyrians were the
first to use iron weapons in war which was a huge advantage for them in winning that
war. The Assyrians also invented an effective postal system. A postal system is also
called a courier system which sends notes and letters. The Assyrians created an
antidepressant. The fumes were inhaled by patients to get rid of sorrow and grief. The
Assyrians were also the first ones to create and clay tablet library filled with cuneiform.
The libraries had over thousands of tablets. Right now they rarely use iron weapons but
instead guns, but there isnt much war now.


The environment in Assyria was good to their type of living. The climate in Assyria is hot
and dry in the summers. Even though it used to be hot and dry, Assyria would have
more rainfall and was way more cooler or south or west of it. Most of the weather in
Assyria was snow, rain and burning heat. There were many animals in Assyria. Sheeps,
Goats, Cattle, Lions, and Elephants were often found in the jungle or hunting in Assyria.
Crops like Barley, Sesame, Corn, Wheat and others were grown in farms and fields.
There were irrigation canals to each town. Barriers were set up in each canal so no
floods can happen.
