There are a number of ways to use this scenario.
Alone-Pair-Group-Class
This is one taught to me by my T"*6 instructor.
9ive each student a worksheet. -tudents work alone and complete the chart in pencil. :t;s
important to insist that they do this before choosing who will go in the lifeboat. #therwise,
they;ll <ust start making choices and never will get to the characteristics of the individuals.
#ne way : do this is to not tell them how many people they will choose. =orking alone at
this point also gives them time to think, to develop their own rationale on which to base their
choices and gives them a position to defend.
-tudents work alone and choose six people to accompany them to the desert island.
-tudents then work in pairs and come up with a single list by consensus.
'airs of students then <oin into small groups and attempt to come up with a single list, again
by consensus.

#ne by one the teacher goes through the potential survivors. *or each possibility the teacher
gets the thumbs>up voters to move to one side of the room and the thumbs>down voters to the
other. "ach side then attempts to get those from the other side to <oin them. The teacher
makes sure that anyone who changes sides ad<usts their list of potential survivors accordingly
so the number they choose remains at six.
