Target Language:
you see?
Prepositions: in, on, near, under
Duration: 45 minutes
Total: 45 minutes.
2 Procedure
A. Warmer
Draw several (up to ten) sea creatures or objects on the white board and ask your
students to count them and say how many they can see.
Next, draw a simplified picture of a beach with some creatures and objects on it.
Introduce 4 main prepositions: ON, IN, UNDER and NEAR by drawing a box and writing
the prepositions on the drawing:
ON
NEAR
IN
UNDER
Ask the students where the certain objects are. They are supposed to answer with 3
words: on the beach, in the sand, under the hat, near the sea etc.
After that, ask them to draw a thing in a certain place i.e. “draw a shell near the sea!”
etc.
B. Vocabulary
After filling in the gaps, ask each student to read the whole paragraph aloud.
The same procedure should be followed with questions and answers in the second

It’s a starfish.
They’re crabs.
They’re fish.
It’s a beach.
It’s an octopus.
There is a large beach in a small seaside town called Maron. On the beach, there
is an old blue boat near the sea. The boat is full of shells and starfish. Crabs
can go in and out of it, but they can’t stay long because they like water. One day
an octopus sees the boat and takes it to the sea. The boat is very happy and so
is the octopus. Two blue dolphins jump out of the water to say hello to them.
They are happy to see the old boat sailing on the sea.
D. Speaking
Practice saying the sentences beginning with “I can see a …..” and “I can’t see a ….”
by looking around the classroom or by putting up a poster on the board with a beach
on it. Instead of “I can see …” they can also revise “there is a ….” etc.
To practice the prepositions, the students give each other instructions where to put a
certain thing. After that the game can be played in which one student hides an object
somewhere in the classroom and others have to guess where the object is by asking:
“Is it under your chair?” or “Is it in the trash can?” and so on.
