Church fair 700 fundraiser
FAIR FUN: Kathy Woodward, Sheila West-Green and Pauline Gaskell.
ACHURCHfair raised almost 700 in
Abergele.
Despite the changeable weather,
plenty of people supported the annual
summer event at St Pauls Methodist
Church on Saturday.
Organisers said the Ploughmans
lunches proved very popular.
Pat Preston, senior church steward,
said: This was an extremely pleasing
figure which was an increase on last
years total particularly welcome
when many folk are having to tighten
their belts.
A COLWYN Bay school is con-
tinuing its investigation amid
more claims of childabuse during
the 1970s and 80s.
This week another former pupil of
Rydal contacted the Weekly News
claimingtohavereportedthematterto
the school during the 70s.
The man, who is now in his 50s and
lives in North Wales, says he and
others made several complaints to the
boarding school on Pwllycrochan Av-
enue during the early to mid 1970s.
In a statement this week the school
says it is continuing its investigation
and is advising any other claims of
abuse to be reported to boththe school
and North Wales Police.
Current headmaster Patrick
Lee-Browne commented: To the best
of my knowledge no new action has
been taken by any former pupils to
make a report to the police or seekany
other formal remedy.
The schools investigation remains
ongoing, and I can only respond to
information from other former pupils
if they make me aware of it by con-
tacting me either as well as, or instead
of, the press.
Any information will, of course, be
treated sensitively and confidentially
for the purposes of my investigation,
and will help me to get the fullest
possible picture of the allegations.
I encourage former pupils to con-
tact me or the police if they feel that is
the appropriate course of action.
Several former pupils have come for-
ward in recent weeks complaining of
abuse by more than one member of
staff at the school in the 1970s and
80s.
Whilst the school is investigating the
matter, none of those who claim they
were abused or say they witnessed it
wishtoinstigateapoliceinvestigation,
although North Wales Police has been
informed.
All the former members of staff ac-
cused are nowdeceased and all claims
of abuse are historical.
